Nader says he has signatures for Wis. ballot

By Associated Press   September 2, 2008 - 10:58 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader’s campaign says it has gathered enough nomination signatures to get on Wisconsin’s ballot in November.

State law requires 2,000 signatures to get on the ballot. Nader’s camp says it intends to file 3,500 signatures on Tuesday, the deadline to submit them. The campaign plans to officially announce it has the signatures at an afternoon news conference at the state Capitol.

Nader received about 16,000 votes out of nearly 3 million cast in Wisconsin in the 2004 presidential election — just more than half a percentage point. He did much better in the Dairy State in 2000, winning 3.6 percent of the vote as the Green Party’s candidate.

Yep; its pretty pathetic. Greatest country in the world, and you end up with two awful candidates. A 3rd party would be great, but it will never happen because the two parties we have both LOVE power, and would never allow any serious 3rd party to form.

Maybe Nader can steal some of the votes from the far left again, and give the election to the GOP, like he did in 2000!

I'm voting for Ron Paul. I've seen him on TV a couple of times and I've read his book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto". He thinks we should call back our military from a lot of countries, secure our borders, reduce the size and scope of the Federal government, and eliminate income tax (it didn't start with George Washington, we got along without it until 1862 and from 1872 until 1913).
.
I've heard a lot of comments from party Democrats on talk radio about how bad McCain's health is and the high probability that Palin will be inheriting the office of President in mid-term. I haven't heard any Republicans echo Hillary Clinton's veiled suggestion about some racist, or anti-Muslim nut job shooting Barack, but the prospect of Biden, selected to be the campaign "attack dog" to go after McCain so "Mr. Change" keeps a clean image, inheriting the office is more disturbing to me.
.
On a lighter note, a friend sent me a link to JibJab's take on the campaign:

Voting for someone outside the two major political parties would certainly never work, but if enough people voted for someone in a third party, ANY party, those votes would be noticed if there were enough of them put together. It would show the entrenched parties that their power was waning. They would have no choice but to change, or declare marshal law, and demand our obedience. Voting for the lesser of two evils only feeds the problem. Either vote for an outside long shot, or write in "none of the above". I'm writing in my choice, even though they aren't running, and I suspect many others will, too. If you vote for either the Dems or GOP, you're voting for the same old stuff. Ask yourself a question: Has anything really changed when going back and forth between the two parties? Why do you think the vote is always so close? Could it be because there's really no difference?

janesvillecomments, funny comment, but it still wouldn't change the "lesser of two evils" problem. People wouldn't want to waste their vote by voting "none of the above" so they would still vote the same as they do now. And by the way, such a system is already in place by simply voting for the incumbent (that's what would happen if "none of the above" won out).

I would love to have a "None Of The Above" option on all elections, where if that gets most of the votes, the candidates are disqualified from running for that office for that term and another campaign/election cycle is held.
.
It might deflate some major political egos and the keep the usual party hacks from running if they are used to winning by being perceived as the lesser of two evils, and a majority of the voters could tell them "We don't want either of you clowns, someone else please try."

I would love to see a primary/alternate voting system for presidential races (and later other races as well). This way I could make a primary vote for a 3rd party, and make an alternate vote for a demican/republicrat that is only applied IF my primary candidate loses the first round. If such a system were in place, people could be free to vote for a 3rd party without risking their vote for one of the main parties. I think now there are a lot of people fed up with both main parties, but continue to vote because they don't want the "lesser of two evils" to win. This needs to stop.

Nader needs to go away. I have no problem with someone running for President, but what's the point of doing it now. He'll get 2-3% of the votes, which could possibly be the difference for one of the main candidates winning or losing. I would love to see someday a 3 party system for Presidential races, but now is not the time.
