Janesville School Board passes budget
JANESVILLE — The Janesville School Board passed a 2008-09 budget after lengthy debate Tuesday night.
The board approved numerous cuts and other budget adjustments to reduce the proposed tax increase. The board did not increase any fees for sports, as one board member had proposed. Numerous parents, students and coaches addressed the board in opposition to any sports fee increase.
Spending will increase by 0.58 percent over 2007-08. The tax levy will rise by about 3.7 percent.
The originally proposed tax levy increase was 8.9 percent, a figure that several board members said was unacceptable at a time that many local taxpayers have lost their jobs or expect to lose them in the near future.

The Janesville School Board needs to charge more for extra curricular activities, especially sports.

This is good news only if they are not skimping on maintenance, because if that's the case, it will end up costing us more in the long run.

Yes, I agree, they did a nice job, but I still think that the purpose of all elected officials is to eliminate waste and tax increases. In say that, I agree they did a nice job, but they could have done better.
