Rep. Baldwin to address Democratic convention at 6:18 p.m.

By Frank Schultz ( Contact )   August 26, 2008 - 12:51 p.m.

Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., announced she will tell the story of a Beloit woman's struggle when she addresses the Democratic National Convention in Denver tonight.

Baldwin is scheduled to speak at 6:18 p.m. Central Time.

Baldwin's speech will be about " the plight of uninsured and underinsured women and families in this country and the need for universal health care," according to the announcement.

The Beloit woman struggled to pay catastrophic medical bills during her husband’s treatment for cancer and went bankrupt after his death, according to Baldwin.

C-SPAN will carry Baldwin’s speech live. The speech also will be streamed at www.demconvention.com.

kiowamohican: Who are you responding too? I can't find any comment stating that FactoCheck.org is a "right wing/neo-con source" as you state.

See anytime you do provide facts the left says you are getting it from a right wing/neo-con source. Its the same with free speech with the left. They claim to be all for free speech as long as they agree with it. If they don't they call for censorship, apologies, ext.
.
I suppose you could just get your news from CBS. It's not like they have ever forged documents to make up their facts!

Thanks for the link re: wait times in Canada. The report also stated, however, that outcomes are as good or better in Canada. Besides, the longest wait is not with universal care. Rather, it is "forever" if your insurance provider refuses to cover the surgery, medication, etc.

FactCheck.org is the site Dick Cheney wanted us to go to during the 2004 election. Its considered an unbiased site. If you read the article it does state that in fact wait times in Canada are longer.

TheAnswerls42: don't confuse the neo-cons with facts, they don't want to hear it or will call it a liberal site because they didn't see it on fox news!

I wonder what wait times are for those who can't afford it here in the US?

Wow, can this convention show any more of its most liberal side? From Jackson Jr, Pelosi, and Kennedy last night to Baldwin tonight. In my opinion, the Dems are really trying to distance themselves from the center.

When I lived in Detroit, there was a flood of Canadians coming across the boarder to receive health care in the US. I wonder what country Americans will go to if we get nationalized healthe care here?

Another Baldwin speech on the glory of socialized medicine. Like the Canadians, where waiting lists are over 1 year for joint replacements, transplants. Months long for MRIs, CT scans. Canandian wait lists are at an all time high. Which is why they spend $1B annually in the U.S. on healthcare.
We need less government in healthcare. For example, allow us to buy health insurance nationwide, rather than restricted within state. This will have an immediate decrease on insurance costs due to increased competition. Call your elected officials now.
America doesn't have a health care crisis. It has government crisis.
