Buggy-cycle crash kills 1, injures 11
DARLINGTON, Wis. (AP) — A collision between a horse-drawn buggy and a motorcycle has killed one person and injured 11 others in southern Wisconsin.
Lafayette County sheriff’s officials say the driver of the motorcycle missed a curve on Highway F Sunday about 6 p.m. near the entrance to Yellowstone Lake State Park.
The bike crossed the center line and hit the buggy. The motorcycle driver, 21-year-old Joseph Hendrickson of Blue Mounds, was killed.
Four adults and seven children in the buggy were injured, some severely. The four adults and four of the children were taken to hospitals.
Sheriff’s officials say one of the two horses pulling the buggy had to be destroyed.

Shame on you people for harping about the word destroy. Look up the definition before you speak! Destroy can mean "to kill" or "to put an end to."
Wise up! This was a dreadful accident. Who cares about the wording anyway!

Please people, a person died in a tragic accident. Ponder that thought when your wife/husband/son or daughter pull out of the driveway. Show a little class/compassion when a life is taken. Please?

This tradgedy happened a few miles from where the 3 year old amish boy was hit and killed by the car a couple of weeks ago. In fact the family from Darlington hit by the cycle were close neighbors to the boys family.

Destroy is the correct term for killing a farm animal. I would have expected more people from Janesville to know this.
.
This was also an AP brief, not a full story.

Why the Gazette left out ALOT of info didn't they? Yes it was an Amish buggy, and for those who think it's important, no seatbelts. Not to mention the motorcyclist was decapitated, and again no seatbelt.

I don't see any mention of it being an Amish buggy in the article. If they had, I would of googled it. Could of been a homemade hill billy buggy with a load of illegal aliens on it for all we know. Not that it would of made it any less tragic.

NUTTY you are serious. Silly. I suggest you google if the Amish Buggy's have seatbelts. I can't even take you serious enough to answer that question. That is almost as logical as asking if the motorcyclist had a seatbelt on.

I understand that this was an accident, and I feel very sorry for all those involved, including their families.
But, I wonder why people are asking if the Amish were wearing seat belts. In case you're not familiar with horses, that's about the dumbest idea ever. I personally have been involved in numerous accidents with my horses--saddled or in harness with a cart.
To me you are lucky as a rider to be able to bail or be thrown rather than to somersault through the air--because you are seatbelted--only to land with a horse on top of you.
Perhaps the amish should have had helmets too? In this case, I really don't think that would have mattered.

Wearing you seatbelt could mean the difference between life or death. So I wonder if they were wearing there seatbelts or not.
.
Yes, this is a sad thing that happened, but I can't help wondering if they were wearing there seatbelts. Do they even have seatbelts?

NEVER....my thoughts exactly. I bet these people would be the first to say the Amish mistreat their horses too. Which is actually far from the truth. Their horses are their money makers and are treated very well. (just in case any of you were wondering). It is always sad when an animal expires due to the neglegence of a human being, but we all have to remember that human's life expectancy is a lot longer than an animals. Chances are the horse lived a long life in horse years.

NUTTY.....You hit the nail right on the head when you picked your screen name. NUTTY you are. Seatbelts in the buggy. I know you must be being sarcastic, because if you are serious.....I pray for your intelligence to be returned to you.

And just an afterthought, I think the word DESTROYED was appropriate, the motorcyclist "destroyed" this family's vehicle and pet. And probably "destroyed" the emotions of many of the children involved in this crash.

People. Come on. You know what they meant by "destroy the horse". It is sad that the horse was put down as well, being their horses are a part of their family as well, but can we please not ALWAYS find something to complain about. Let's focus on the tragedy of a family being struck probably on their way to or from church, and a young man that was obviously too inexperienced to be driving a motorcycle. That is the message here. Driving irratically and causing undue injuries. I know many Amish, and I am hoping these were not some of the ones I know. Prayers to all involved.

No wonder I don't log on here much anymore. For those that are offended with the word "destroyed", which by the way is a very common term for an instance such as this, log onto www.disney.com and stay there. Sheesh.

Get over your touchy-feely choice of words. Perhaps thinking more of the parties in this story than your "own self feelings" being hurt would be more positive. The word destroyed has been used for many, many years for such an instance as this, particularly with animals, especially when a bullet is used to end their life. Now, for the record, I am NOT saying that a bullet was DEFINITELY used...just an example. Good Day!

How do you destroy a horse? Im not an english major but wouldnt the word "euthanize" be a more subtle choice of words??
