Green Bay man steals ATM with $11,000

By Associated Press   August 17, 2008 - 7:54 a.m.

GREEN BAY — A Green Bay man accused of using a forklift to steal an automated teller machine this summer has pleaded not guilty to a pair of felonies.

Steven Powers, 46, was arraigned Friday in Brown County Court. He's accused of stealing the ATM in June from the Resch Center, where he was a former operations supervisor.

Prosecutors say he drove a forklift through glass doors, pulled the ATM from its mounting bolts and loaded it into a reportedly stolen car.

The criminal complaint says detectives found $6,250 in cash in his home. Resch Center officials say the ATM had nearly $11,000.

The complaint says he was fired from the Resch Center in 2005 for stealing.

A call to Powers' attorney Saturday disconnected before a reporter could leave a message.

The guy is a goof but at least he had to put a little effort into the heist; unlike the cruds who just go into the bank and pull a weapon on a teller.

Thanks for those links janesvillean.
Hey! At least the culprit was nice enough to close the garage door behind him. He probably didn't want anyone to break in and steal anything. What a guy! lol

This guy should be prosecuted twice... once for the crime and once for being so stupid. Keep him out of the gene pool for a very long time - please!

The video is actually on LiveLeak:

BTW this is a Florida heist where they must have recovered a video record from the ATM afterward -- you actually get to ride on the forklift...

Forklifts have been used in numerous ATM thefts worldwide but only recently in the US. There are efforts to make it more difficult such as burying part of the ATM underground.
