Room at the Inn
There’s now room at the inn. The Cobblestone Inn & Suites opened Friday in Evansville as the city’s only hotel.
I talked with manager/owner Brad Moellenberndt this morning, and he said opening weekend went well. A class reunion in town helped nearly fill the place, he said.
Rooms are booking up with some wedding blocks and class reunions, including another one this weekend.
“We’re expecting some business travelers,” he said. “We’ve been around to the local businesses. They’re happy there’s finally a hotel here, and everyone doesn’t have to go to Madison, Janesville or Edgerton.”

I would have to disagree that the reference to "Evansville is full of drunks." It is a small town with not a lot to do. Everything that is geared to anyone is, at least, in Janesville, Madison, Rockford, Dubuque, wherever the services needed are located.
It is unfortunate that almost every small town, except those in "dry" counties, seems to have a high rate of alcholism-- or at least more drinking gatherings.
Don't knock it. Unfortunately, today's society is not like the "good ole' days" where we had to learn to entertain without alcohol, tv, computers, etc.
Anyone care to join me in using imagination and creativity to create positive things to do other than today's societal entertainment?

Evansville might become a place for people tying the knot if they got a business that could hold more than 200 people for a reception. I'm from Evansville and would have loved to had my wedding reception there, but with the biggest reception place being the Evansville Country Club, which probably only holds 200 guests upstairs, I was forced to go with a much larger Janesville venue. Plus, the Janesville venue I chose for the reception was just about the same price as the Evansville Country Club would have charged for the same type of food.

Since I live in Janesville, an inn in Evansville isn't of direct interest to me. I'd like to point out, though, that if gas prices and the cost-of-living continues to spiral upwards, Evansville may become a choice newlyweds destination for Janesville couples tying the knot.
.
I'm very pleased to see a Gazette staffer that puts web links in an online article. I hope the Gazette's inservice meetings are preaching WWW, Who, What, Where, When, Why and How to the old-school print jounralists.

This property was developed by WHG Companies out of Oshkosh, in the nearly 20 years they have not had a hotel go back to the bank or become efficiencies. They have developed and owned properties in Medford, WI, Plymouth WI, Jackson, WI, Ripon, WI and Clintonville, WI. All towns the same size as Evansville.

In order to drink in the hotel bar you need to show your room key. So no one other than the people staying at the hotel can drink in the bar.

rlm - WOW!!! So you are saying Evansville is a town full of drunks??

I think it is a good idea for Evansville to get this new business. Evansville is a nice town. A lot of people travel Hwy 14 because they don't like I-90. I say the best of luck to Brad Moellenberndt on his new business. It takes a lot to try and do something on your own. Believe me, I know.

Good for the owner to have the foresite to get a license as he can do weddings etc.
Good luck to the new business. I always like to see people succeed.

I think it could be a good thing. But as with the first poster, I question just how well it will do. I don't think there will be enough business to keep it going. But then again I think he did apply for a liquor license and we all know how people in Evansville like to drink. That might keep him in business.

I think a motel in Evansivlle will be a asset to the city. I dont know if there's a motel in Oregon, but at this time there is no motel on hwy 213 from Beloit to Evansville, and hwy 14 to Oregon, or even Madison. I wish them positive response.

A motel is exactly what this town needs. It will be great place for friends and relatives to stay while they visit. It will save them from having to travel to Madison, Janesville, Stoughton or Edgerton. A lot of travelers use
Hwy 14 and I am sure it will get its share of travelers.
Obviously, the last poster has never had to send people to another city to stay. AND the room tax will be great for the city!
This is the most postive thing to come to Evansville in years.

It will be efficiency apartments within a year. This town needs many things.....a motel is not one.
