What I'd give to see the Crew and Sox in the World Series
The recent success of the Brewers has made some Crew fans get fired up about a potential playoff run, despite having all of August and September to go for baseball. A seven game winning streak on the road definitely will do that.
After Tuesday’s loss in game two of the border-battle with the Chicago Cubs, the Crew sits three games back from first in the NL Central and only one game ahead of St. Louis in the wild card race, hanging on by a thread for a playoff opportunity.
Wouldn’t it be cool, though, if the Crew could pull it off and extend their season into October? If the hyped C.C. Sabathia pays off like some Brewer fans think, and fellow ace Ben Sheets pulls some strong outings in the coming months. Combine that with the slugging efforts of Ryan Braun, J.J. Hardy and company, and the Brew-Crew might have a shot.
Who would they play? The Red Sox, of course.
OK, I’m biased, seeing as how I’m a Sox fan. But I’ve always wondered what would happen if the Red Sox faced the Brewers in the Fall Classic. Especially since the Brewers have been hot lately. Who would I root for? Would I have to wear a Red Sox T-shirt with a Brewer hat, or sport one of those Cracker Jack tattoos of each team on my arms?
I have a feeling that I would pull for the Sox a bit more, but if the Brewers won, I don’t think I’d be terribly mad. Sad that my Red Sox lost, sure, but not mad.
But those are just mid-summer dreams of America’s pastime. The Crew never disappoints, they’ll get hopes up and then plop. The Red Sox are anything but hot right now. They’ve dropped six of the last ten games and are 1-4 at home since the All-Star break. They’re 2.5 games back from Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the AL East and only one game up on the Minnesota Twins in the wild card race.
Pitching has been slow to come around since the break as has hitting, with a .242 average and .316 on base percentage in the last six games, 24th in the league.
But there’s still a lot of baseball left. If the Crew has a few more weeks like last week and the Sox can get back on track with Beckett on the mound tonight. We’ll see. Maybe Milwaukee will be mobbed in October as Sox fans and Brewer fans thirsty for a World Series appearance flock to Miller Park.
Go Sox!

oops, I meant Zambrano and Harden, not Harren.

I think the best thing about the Brewers getting swept by the Cubs is - IF - the Cubs win the division and the Crew the wild card, the central champ will likely play Arizona, and I agree Kiowa, that is not a 1-2 punch even Zambrano and Harren match up with. The Brewers will be in a better position against Philly or the Mets than with Arizona in a 5 game series. I do think the Cubs and Brewers both match up better in 7 games against Arizona, so as a Brewer fan I will let the Cubbies battle them in 5. Go Crew.

Minnesota, Arizona, and St Louis seem like your best values bets on the board. Better then 32/1 on St Louis has value written all over it. I'd really watch out for Arizona folks. Keep in mind when playoffs come its a 4 man (sometimes 3 man) starting rotation. Arizona has (I think) the best 1-2 punch in the game with Webb, and Harren. Old, Randy Johnson is showing signs of life, and if he comes into any sort of his past dominance, I'd really look out for the d-backs. 19/1 is a flat out awesome price! I'm going to get me a piece of that action!

My Tigers are the team who have been this years real disappointment. However; they are still not totally out of it. I'm still hoping that their stacked line up gets super hot, and they make a huge surge.
Baseball is crazy. We have the possibilty of a Marlins D-Rays world series. Who would have ever thunk that one?! That said; it still loks like the good ole Bo SOx or Yankees will be the team to beat come October. Anaheim is super tough too, but they are so far ahead in the west that they may not play with playoff intensity come October.
Where is my Man Kiowa to give his "expert" scoop, and odds on the race? Just don't curse my Tigers again like you did a few years back!

RIP, beloved Brewers. The Cubs are dominant in every phase of the game and proved it big time in the last 4 games. Fun while it lasted, though.

Pop that bubble your living in, you wont live long enough to see the Brewers in a World Series,As a Cub fan we live by the famous words (Wait till Next Year)and you know what next year never comes. Now write about something useful like the plight of the American People who are held Victims to third world countries over oil.

With Carpenter back, a Cardinal - Angels Series. The Brewer and Cub attempts to buy a pennant will not work.

That would be awesome, Ryan. I'm just hoping to reach the playoffs right now, though.
