It's time to move on Packer fans
I would consider myself a Packer follower. I’m not a die-hard fan, but I don’t absolutely hate the team. I’ll watch them on Sunday and hope they win (probably just because it will make for a better Monday if everyone is in a good mood).
I previously was a hard-core fan, attending training camp each summer, getting up super-early to stand outside the locker rooms and follow the stars of Green Bay down to the Hutson Center. I’d sit all day on the bleachers staring onto the field and hoping to catch good photographs with my uncle (a giant Packer fan – still is) and to catch a glimpse of Super Bowl superstars like Brett Favre, Reggie White, Ahman Green and Antonio Freeman.
Now, Brett Favre is gone. And fans need to move on.
But Packer fans, hold true to your team and pull behind Aaron Rodgers.
In this Favre debate, I’ve realized that most people arguing aren’t really Packer fans, but Favre fans. My advice holds the same for them. Pull behind him, rally behind him, even if he does play for the “enemy” in Minnesota, or Tampa, or any other team in the NFL.
Those calling for Ted Thompson to take him back, ask yourself this: “If I were to retire from my job right now, and say that the job was getting too much for me and I need to finish on a high note, should I expect my employer to take me back in four months?”
Most probably would say “well, no.” And I can guarantee most employers would say “sorry but we’ve moved on and hired somebody to replace you.” They might even have a stipulation like the Packers. You could come back, but you’ll have to work your way back to the top because we’ve got this new person in place and they’ll do just fine.
The same will happen for the Packers. Rodgers isn’t going to be the same as Favre, but not many quarterbacks will play at the level Favre did. The team will be there every Sunday and play as best they can, like they always do.
The Packers have moved on, and the fans need to do so as well. That way we can worry about more pressing issues that truly affect all of our lives.
Let the fury of comments begin.

Even still the drama continues. Granted Favre is a great quaterback, This season so far with the Jets proves that. During the Nov. 24th monday night game against the Saints I lost track of the number of times his name was mentioned at 25. It's not only the fans still hung up on this, it's also the sports casters. Enough is enough, if it's that important to dwell on him, then switch over and become a Jets fan.

I am tired of all this Favre bs. It is time to move on. Despite all the records, the consecutive games streak, seven division titles and countless thrills Favre has given us, he is not, nor has he ever been, a good playoff quarterback. Yes, the Packers with Favre at QB did win a super bowl to help erase 25 years of failure, but all of his other seasons have ended with miserable playoff performances. As a Packer fan first, I am ready to move on with Rodgers, Brohm and Flynn. Let’s not forget that Favre too was un unheralded, and inexperienced quarterback when another fan favorite, Majikowski, went down with an injury and Favre got his chance. The sentiment at that time was the Packers don’t stand a chance now with this Falcon castoff at quarterback. Only time will tell...let’s move on and be done with all the distracting drama.

Some interesting prices on the Packers:
(compliments of the World Sports Exchange)
To win the NFC north: 9/5 (Minnesota is actually the current favorite at 8/5)
To win the NFC Championship: 12/1
To win the Super Bowl: 25/1

End of story.

I can only sit and wonder after a few weeks camp or possibly into the season, what is the residant messiah gonna say when Rogers is out with an injury for several weeks or the season and Farve is continuing his great career for another franchise. I sincerely do hope Rodgers does not fall victim to the injury bug. But history only seems to support this theory. Thompson didn't treat Mike Sherman well so his attitude about Farve should be no surprise. How can you allow someone with the talent and stats of Farve to just "go away". Finally when you have three time mvp and he offers you some credible suggestions you might want think he may have a point and try hiring some of the people he's suggesting.

Edgar Bennet and Dorsey Levens were the running backs. God people that dont follow favre and the team should shut up.

zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz..... huh?? more people arguing over an ongoing topic that has been drawn out for too long?? Favre's just being a big baby and wants to stay in the spotlight... it's all a big game to him... wants to retire, then one more year, then retires, then changes his mind to come back only to find out he's being replaced... he starts throwing a temper tantrum because Rogers took his spot upon retirement... how much more childish can he get?? just becasue he's not getting his way?!?! really now...
for those that are true PACKER fans, follow the team... for those that are FAVRE fans, follow him... ridiculous that there's this much controversy over one man's idiocy... sports used to be for competative athletes to have fun, not a contest to see who makes the most money per season...

Farve is an elderly quarterback with few productive years left in him. He was great and needs to move on. Green Bays future is in it's youth, Farve taught them heart and hard work, now it's time to see what they learned. I don't believe Farve can start again in the NFL, top defensive players laid off big hits out of respect, now that he wants to come back, the respect is lost and the hits will be hard.

Rogers has only one year left on his contract. Now is the time to prove if he is going to be the QB of the future. Favre gave the team no choice after retiring, then re-retiring. Favre is a top 5 QB, IMHO, but he really has nobody to blame but himself. A die-hard PACKER fan can move on.

The Packers brass has been preaching that they need to do whats good for the team right now in 2008. You cannot tell me that right now the packers have a better chance of winning the superbowl with rodgers than Favre, no way no how no ifs, ands, or butts about it Favre is better for the packers, coming off a career high in completion percentage and one of the best years in his career with most of his starters returning, Swallow your pride packers brass and get Favre back in uniform, im sick of people saying "we owe it to rodgers to start him" Bull crap we dont owe him a thing, for the money hes making carrying a clipboard and mentoring under favre give me a break. He will get his shot...when favre is done.

Leader,
Get some perspective. "...it's a touchy subject that you broach". Give me a break. Cancer is a touchy subject. AIDS is a touchy subject. Brett Favre not playing for the Packers is NOT a touchy subject, it's a fact. Football is a game. I love the Packers, but come on now.
Great article, Ryan.

Ryan, perhaps if you would have a resume like a future hall of famer, rather than someone who's other job may be writing Bazooka Joe comics, then perhaps the Gazette would take time to think about taking you back. Throw a few awards or get to the level of Cal Thomas or William F. Buckley, and maybe they'd think twice if you came out of retirement. Sorry to be demeaning, but it's a touchy subject that you broach. Until you have lived through years of Packers teams that were the bottom dwellers of the NFL, then don't come to us and tell us to move on. I agree with the fact that we have become drunk on success, and because of that some people would rather see someone else play in Green Bay than Brett Favre. But please don't give advice to fans that have not just followed, but lived with a team for years, as if another player of his caliber is just waiting in the wings to lead this team. Chances of seeing another player take a team and do what he's done is slim and none.

As team supporter, that is who you need to support. Favre is good, but he is not the god of QB's. There are better guys out there. Guys that can get the Packers to the Super Bowl again. You never know, Rodgers could do it in a couple of years.
Favre - just enjoy your retirement. If I had your money, and family, I would. Wish I could have retired when I was 38.

let the guy go, I'm a packer fan, but come on, if he wants to play somewhere else let him go, he's past his prime, he probably is thinking he can make one last run somewhere else, so let him, logic should tell him to stay retired at the top of his game. the fact is its his life.

I think America’s obsession with pro sports has gotten ridiculous. People will steadily complain about a CEO with an MBA making a few million a year, but a pro athlete can make twenty million and that’s OK. I totally agree with the fact that Packer fans need to move on. I also think the Packers should either trade or release Farve out of respect for what he has done for the organization. I personally believe that Farve has hurt the Pack in big games in recent years as evidenced by his poor performance against Dallas and in the playoffs. The Farve situation has turned into a circus like side show, which is distracting from the team. Then again, I’m not a Packer backer either.

If you were a 3 time AP reporter of the year, and had an awards list as long as your arm...and your journalism had led your paper to be a finalist for newspaper of the year throught the USA...and were a shoe in to be voted into the journalist hall of fame on the first year you were eligible, do you think you should be welcomed back?
Wake up people. If you think Aaron Rogers will do anything more than get hurt you are mistaken.
Favre has EARNED the right to be welcomed back.
We will move on but Packer Nation will never be the same and not a question of if but when Aaron Rogers goes down...Thompson and McCarthy better get body guards.
