Milton loves a good mystery

By Stacy Vogel ( Contact )   July 8, 2008 - 8:21 a.m.

I never really got into the mystery genre.

Oh sure, I had a fling with Sherlock Holmes when I was a teen. And this year I read a great murder mystery that's been circulating our newroom: "Basket Case" by Carl Hiaasen. But I'm not what you'd call a mystery junkie.

The 12 "investigators" of Milton's Mystery Book Club are mystery junkies.

They've been meeting once a month at Milton Public Library for six years to solve mysteries with their favorite authors, led by head detective Ethel Himmel, according to a news release from the library. Library Director Lisa Brooks compared them to the Energizer Bunny when it comes to cracking cases.

New members are always welcome, the release says. This month's book is "The Blind Assassin" by Margaret Atwood. The group will meet to discuss it at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16.

Click here for the club's schedule through February 2009. For more info, call the library at (608) 868-7462 or stop in at 430 E. High St. And start brushing up on your detective skills.

Nice post, Stacy!

Other Rock County libraries have "mystery clubs", too. If you can't make it to Milton, ask your local library what they offer! :-)
