Braun will start All-Star Game

By Stacy Vogel ( Contact )   July 6, 2008 - 4:06 p.m.

Ryan Braun received the most All-Star votes of any National League outfielder, earning him one of three starting outfield spots on the National League All-Star Team, according to the Milwaukee Brewers Web site.

Major League Baseball announced the roster today for the All-Star Game scheduled for Tuesday, July 15.

Ben Sheets was named to the National League's pitching staff. It will be his second consecutive and fourth overall All-Star appearance.

Right fielder Corey Hart also has a chance to play. He was named one of five candidates for the final spot on the National League team. Fans have until 4 p.m. Thursday to vote on the final player at www.mlb.com.

What ever happened to baseball as we used to know it? When a pitcher used to be able to pitch a complete game? And when pitchers had to face the batters they were throwing high and tight to? And take the pitches at the plate that they dished out?
It ain't the same, and that's a shame.

I hear ya, spikesmom. Let’s dump Sheets and bring back Turnbow. Now there’s a guy with some real pitching skills. He can throw a baseball with the accuracy to hit the center of a moving bat with enough velocity to make it ricochet right out of most ball parks.

Really???? I had no idea that's how it works... They're always pulling starters with less than 100 pitches even if they're doing well... Out after 6 with new pitchers in the 7th, 8th and 9th. Sometimes they get to go throught the 7th, but rarely.

its called pitch count spikesmom. if that gets to high, regardless of how theyve been pitching, they get pulled.

I've actually watched most of the games and even been to 6 of them this year. I am a long time Brewers fan and I've never understood the hoopla surrounding Sheets. As soon as he got his huge contract is when all his mysterious injuries started. He is now finally pitching the way he should be. Suppan is also terrible and Bush could be better. I just think there are much better players on that team that don't get the recognition they deserve because everyone is too busy talking about Sheets. Also, what I meant was that I think the good Brewers players know that HAVE to score A LOT on days he pitches. They're also learning to do the same with Suppan on the mound. It would also be nice if the other starters would be given chances to pitch complete games when their day is going well. Why is Sheets the only one to be given that option?

Haven't watched many games this year, hey spikesmom? Sheets ERA would be even better if not for one (very) bad inning against the Dodgers.

and doesnt the rest of the team ALWAYS have to score more runs than their pitcher gives up in order to win?

are you serious? his era is under 3. and that has nothing to do with the brewers scoring runs. sheets is one of the best pithcers in all of baseball and hes healthy! suppan and bush are our bad pitchers. sheeter is our ACE!

I'll be glad when Ben Sheets is gone. He's only 10-2 this year because the rest of the team knows they need to score more runs than he gives up every outing. Isn't he due for some weird injury, anyway?
