15-year sentence in child sex case

By Mike DuPre' ( Contact )   June 24, 2008 - 1:51 p.m.

JANESVILLE -- Brian L. Anderson will spend the next 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy in 2007.

Judge Alan Bates sentenced Anderson, 22, Janesville, to prison and another 10 years of extended supervision Tuesday morning.

Referring to a pre-sentence report that listed three juvenile convictions for sexually assaulting children, Bates said: “Mr. Anderson is a dangerous person, and the public deserves to be protected from him.”

Anderson was charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 13 without great bodily harm, but the criminal complaint against him says the boy told investigators that Anderson fondled him on several occasions.

Anderson was “clearly unable to control his impulses,” Bates said.

The judge added that Anderson acted on his impulses over long periods of time because the pre-sentence report said he talked about grooming his child victims.

Anderson is not eligible for prison programs that could shorten his sentence.

He doesn't need to be eligible for "programs" to be out on parole in five years. If he was eligible for "programs" he would probably be out in 12 months or less. Making him ineligible for programs that would shorten his release date sounds good on paper but isn't worth the ink used to print it.

of course, I would too, RoadKing, but we ALL know that most, if not all, sexual offenders (and especially child sexual offenders) are not punished nearly to the degree of their victims. sad, but true...

But the article also states, "Anderson is not eligible for prison programs that could shorten his sentence." That, in and of itself, is unusual in these days of prison overpopulation. For that, I give KUDOS to the justice system.

I think Dub meant this perv will do 5 then get out on parole even though he was sentenced to 15. Anybody who thinks that child molesters should only get 15 years is crazy. If he did this to my kids I'd want him to fry in the electric chair.

oh. of course...I was being optimistic when I read "will spend the next 15 years in prison".

I have read it a few times. Are you sure he wasn't sentenced to 15 in and another 10 supervised?

finally. A reasonably sane sentence for the harm that was done to these children.
