Dutcher, Cullen to lead GM response
Gov. Jim Doyle named UAW Local 95 President Brad Dutcher and community leader and school board member Tim Cullen to lead a community effort in response to General Motor’s announcement that it plans to close its plant in Janesville.
Doyle said the local effort will help coordinate federal, state and local resources with other stakeholders to maintain GM’s presence in Janesville.

flyboy - check it out. New tax breaks for the well off are habitually where the Repubs BEGIN - operative word "Begin." It's what they care about first and foremost, and morphs into their wool-over-the-eyes mantra. Of course, when they were in control of everything, it was only a start and got even worse from there. Have you seen any of Michael Moore's work? Or busy like them, preemptively pre-propagandizing yourself away from even observing it? Self censoring is a key ingredient for totalitarianism, whether military juntas, religious fanatics, or oligarchic domination.

I think that there is more to come here folks. I guarantee these two are smart enough to involve our local representatives. I also guarantee this will become a bi-partisan effort for the good of Janesville. Kudos to these guys for stepping up.

If Tim has this kind of time on his hands, I would like to see him run some training classes for high school students.

Why would any businessman volunteer to do this. So that everyone can blame them, and their business when it doesn't work!

A union guy and a school board leader are going to lead the GM response? Okay I get having a union leader as a member of that squad, but why isn't Russ Feingold or Paul Ryan working on this? Doesn't Rock County have any really good businessman that could help with a response? I know the only billionaire has passed away, but aren't there any other business moguls in here that can bring a viable solution to the table?

Why must people who are less likely to be of the conservative nature lower themselves with name calling? "especially you rt wing whackos among us" Come on now sir, can't you be a little more creative than to stoop to negative adjectives?
Why would "rt wing whackos" watch a "lt wing whacko" like Michael Moore anyway?
"Give-aways to the rich and powerful are always where the Republicans begin..." Always? Such as never once did they do anything but give away to the Rich and Powerful? One could say that "Give-aways to the ones who are poor and are not willing to help themselves are always where the Democrats begin..." kind of rediculous isn't it?
I despise those who call names! Real Tough Guy huh?!?

Did any of you guys, especially you rt wing whackos among us, ever stoop to watch "Roger and Me"? Michael Moore plumbed this material 19 yrs ago, and now it's our turn; so instead of trying to make cheap blame-game political hay, bone up on things, and try to start developing a constructive approach. Give-aways to the rich and powerful are always where the Republicans begin, and everyone gets caught up in the mad-bid game. It is no time for cheap shots at our political leaders or our working employees, especially after blissfully unregulated, immediate-profit, anti futurist corporate dinosaurs have caused the problem, in fact ARE the problem. Hopefully Tim, who has been very dedicated over a long history, and has been around many issues in this state and county, CAN help marshal something constructive. Good luck Tim and Mr Dutcher.

I got an idea for Doyle - lower corporate taxes like Tommy did to make Wisconsin business friendly. Then Janesville could lower property taxes. Works for Nevada.

JP - I agree with you, Doyle has done nothing to make WI a business friendly state...other than his efforts to make Madison into a "Silicon Valley-East."
*
But the hammer the state has, more so the feds, is significant.
*
Think about all the defense contracts GM lobbies for, tax codes, tax breaks, training dollars, etc, etc.
*
The House Ways and Means Committee and the US Senate Judiciary Committee could put some pressure on GM in ways that may never make the newspaper.

It took Beloit a very long time to recover from it's loss of Beloit Corp. And many would argue they're still recovering... but they're in a much better place than just ten years ago.
If we can learn from Beloit... maybe wecan temper the damage GM does when they close the doors.

I'm not sure what hammer Doyle could hold over GM. Far better if he'd look in the mirror and honestly answer the question, "What could I do to make businesses want to locate here and then stay here."

JP - Exactly - Shouldn't the "delegation" consist of Gov. Doyle, Reps. Paul Ryan and Tammy Baldwin, Sens. Feingold and Kohl?!?!
*
After all, these are the politicians who can hold a hammer over GM in DC and Madison...what in good gravy can the Local 95 president do that he has not already tried? What can a long-gone state senator promise or trade??

I guess they have to try something. The effort will be fruitless, but at least they will feel better about themselves.
