Feingold, Kohl endorse Obama for president

By Associated Press   June 4, 2008 - 8:26 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wisconsin Sens. Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl endorsed Barack Obama for president Wednesday - a day after the Illinois senator clinched the Democratic presidential nomination over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Feingold campaign field director Paula Zellner also endorsed Obama, wrapping up the three remaining uncommitted Wisconsin superdelegates.

"I've spoken with Senator Obama and made it clear that he could count me as an endorsing supporter of his at the Democratic Convention this August," Feingold said in a statement. "Senator Obama is an effective leader, capable of leading our country into a new era, and I look forward to doing everything I can to ensure his success this November."

Feingold had said he was "inclined" to support Obama after he won Wisconsin's Democratic primary in February. But Feingold held off making the endorsement until now.

In a separate statement, Kohl said "we can unite behind his historic candidacy" now that Obama has clinched the nomination.

"He has worked to restore the trust of so many Americans who are clamoring for a new direction," he said.

Superdelegates are free to vote for any candidate they wish at the convention.

Charles Franklin, a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said many superdelegates had been concerned about backing someone who failed to get the nomination.

"Many were looking for ways to avoid being held responsible for the outcome," Franklin said.

If McCain supports tax cuts (like Bush) I'd be all for him. However; he actually OPPOSED the Bush tax cuts, which actually cut taxes ACROSS THE BOARD, and not just for the upper income earners.
.
Now Obama and the Democrats want to resend those cuts, so everyone who pays taxes will have their taxes go up. That will just be the start of it. Once health care, and the endless social programs are passed, you will see TAX AFTER TAX to pay for it. This is the very definition of Marxism.
.
Every time the government raises taxes for some program that could better be accomplished by private enterprise, we lose some more of our liberties. The looting of our private property, which includes our wages, against our will, to give it to someone who hasn't earned it, is a fundamental abuse of our basic property rights.

Whybesad,

because you have no clue about what you are posting.

I believe the factual stats state 95% of the time McCain voted with Bush/for Bush this past year and about 85% over the past 7 years.

The only difference I see is McCain state "my foreign policy will mean we will NEVER have to go to WAR over OIL again."
That is a significant difference.

McCain like Bush doesn't care about working people without heath care.
McCain like Bush supports tax cuts that benefit the rich more than the middle/working class.
McCain like Bush wants to continue and expand the war in iraq to Iran while basically ignoring Afganistan.

I am sad because of the ignorant.

Listen to am820 for the real facts regarding politics Hannity and Rush are liars.

Overthehill you are a COMPLETE moron if you think Mcain is anything like President Bush. I guess you have no clue on the positions of President Bush and Macain. The only thing they have in common is they actually want to win the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. They don't want to run away like nobama wants to.

Intrade has Richardson at 8.2, or an 8.2% chance to be Obama's VP nomination. I was ALL OVER IT today! At worse, you can hedge out of that and cash in nice, once the media starts to talk up Richardson big, and his contract prices go up. Right now, he's very low profile, and an awesome value.

Hillary is actually the current favorite on Intrade at 16.5, which is a complete joke. I see NO WAY that she will be Obama's choice.

If Obama were to loose due to the Hispanic vote, and some of that vote were found to be from illegal immigrants, would the democrats then become born-again believers in voter I.D., condemning Bush and his lackeys for blocking this needed and worthy legislation?

mmm:
Forgot to mention in that analysis, that Richardson endorsed Obama right when the fight with Hillary was getting heated. Richardson served in the Clinton (Bill's) cabinet, so it was very strange that he'd switch loyalty all the sudden.
.
My speculation would be that the Obama camp came to Richardson, and said that they'd give him the VP spot, if he should win the nomination over Clinton.

lakenndy:
I strongly feel Obama will choose Bill Richardson as VP. The reason for this is very simple. It is the soundest strategical play that there is.

Here is the dirty little secret of why it's very likely Obama will loose in November. It's the demographic that is getting larger each and every year:
The HISPANIC VOTE.

Mark my word on that one folks. The media will pick up on this soon. Obama was crushed vs Hillary amongst Hispanic voters. Strangely, McCain has STRONG appeal to Hispanics, because of his co-sponsoring of the amnesty bill with Ted Kennedy (a bill that he took MAJOR flack over from the right, and the majority of Americans not of Hispanic heritage). McCain has so much appeal that he basically now has Florida (a key battle ground state) locked up. He's up double digits in polls there vs Obama. What is really scary (for the Democrats) is that his appeal to Hispanics is putting CALIFORNIA in play, with it's heavy Hispanic population. If CA goes to McCain, it's not a matter IF he wins, but just a matter of how big of a landslide it will be then.
.
Obama clearly needs to do something to appeal to the Hispanic population. Choosing Bill Richardson (a Hispanic) is a good start. He (Richardson) also has all sorts of international experience as a former ambassador, which is an area Obama is lacking.
.
I'm looking for odds on the various world exchanges on Richardson as Obama's VP (nothing is out there as of yet), as I STRONGLY feel he will be Obama's choice.

Once again my political analysis comes free of charge to all you Gazette readers, haha.

They waited, like many other superdelegates, until the citizens of the US had their vote first. It wasn't cowardly, it showed each of us respect.

If all the superdelegates declared early enough our votes would hardly matter. They should have all waited until yesterday to declare.

When and if Obama becomes president, baring any more scandal (our mothers told us that we are judged by the company we keep), he will find a congress controlled by his own party with its own ideas about what should be done. He may find it just as difficult to work with that group as President Clinton did back in 1993.
Presidents are term limited, now if only congress were term limited....

What a disappointment Kohl and Feingold are. They could not stand up and be counted while it was the brave thing to do, now when it doesn't really matter, the little whimps decide to back the only one who can really take this country back to where it needs to be. Barack will trounce McSame by the time November comes as McSame is going to lose his cool so many times between now and then. He is an old hothead and cannot be trusted, he has been in politics too long and is in the back pocket of too may other politicians. That is what I like about Barack, he is fresh and not sullied by the political scene, he is going to do it his way, and I have turned into an Obamican

I'm shocked. I thought that Russ would endorse his old pal McCain. I guess he's not the independent he claims to be after all.
As far as "nobody's senator but yours" goes, he wants to maintain his committee memberships so his endorsement was inevitable.
Neither one had the intestinal fortitude to endorse before the rest of the herd stampeded in that direction. I doubt that this is the kind of "change" every one is looking for.
