Janesville principal recruitment scrutinized by consultants

By Beth Wheelock ( Contact )   April 10, 2008 - 4:56 a.m.

From the WCLO newsroom:

Janesville School District officials are using techniques from the Studer Group to search for new principals.

Superintendent Tom Evert says Studer representatives have met with the Jackson Elementary School interview team. Wilson Elementary will also need a new principal. Parker High School Principal Dale Carlson is a finalist for a superintendent position in the Holmen School District. Evert says the Studer Group recommends fewer people screen applications and more people conduct the second interviews.

I really wish people would learn to use "their" and "there" properly.

Not only do the teachers have to work 745 to 230, but the promised child care is at the rate of $16.00 an hour!

mrmeadec. Call the teachers out by school and class then! I would seriously doubt that this is happening, as they have to be there anyway. Unfortunately, your comments make all the teachers look bad, lets hear who they are. The teachers will be working 7:45 until 2:30 if I'm not mistaken. What would they gain? Are you just making this up to take yet another stab at the teachers? Rather than complain about the teachers, you should ask administration why the middle and high school kids only need to attend for 2 hours. That is the real problem.

Sorry for getting off topic. Having veteran teachers of the district is a great idea for the interview process.

I would like to see the teachers have their say too, but some teachers are telling there kids that they dont want them to show up at school on those 2 saturdays. So should we really let the teachers pick????

Who better than to select principals than the teachers who have given their hearts and souls to that school for twenty or thirty years? Do you want the citizens of Boston selecting the mayor of Detroit? And the central office administrators have little understanding of the daily workings and needs of a specific school.
The teachers are only one component of the principal interview process. Parents, administrators, support staff and students are also included.

I think that the JSD needs to do some thing to change the way they interview. I know when assistant pricipals are hired the interview "team" consists of people that will be working for the AP. How are the teachers/secretaries qualified to interview a superior?
