Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, a pay raise???? What is a pay raise??? There is no such thing in the "new norm" America of benefitless, poor paid, part-time jobs.
Perhaps if I had caught a freighter to China some time ago to find one of America's once good jobs, and found one of them once good now lost jobs there, I might have gotten a couple of Chinese fens increase by now.
Bob Keith - coming out of "anonymous blog poster" retirement out of pure disgust regarding our hopeless economy -
raise? what is that. Retiree pay has seen lower checks monthy as companies take more for health care etc. But it sure seems that the cities keep wanting terrible house taxes each year. I can see why 1 in 7 are doing the foreclosure thing now.
Several raises. They're available to those who are willing to change and humble themselves to learn the principles of the new economy. ------ "Success never goes on sale, but most spend their whole life dickering over the cost and never make the purchase."
In assisted living in most all sectors, but specifically with those with disabilities, the raises and bonuses are slim to none, IF there's even talk of them... that's another story.
Regarding the almost 70% voting no and the high unemployment rate in our area - maybe our city council should take another vote against the 2 million for the new ice arena. I would like to see the Gazette run some stories about local families that are feeling the burden of no job and the economy.
Fortunate to still have job and avoid lay-offs..... but have taken huge pay cuts - 5% three years ago and froze since then ... It doesn't appear retirement will be in the cards for me since I cannot bank enough from my pawltry paycheck not get an honest return/growth on my savings to help make up the immense stock market losses I have experienced since the early 2000s .... This is not a nice time to be living in this country.
No raise this year. I would like to comment on those complaining about Social Security. Yes, I feel there should have been an increase this year also, my senior relatives and friends rely on it. BUT, my senior relatives and friends have made the mistake of relying on it totally as their 'retirement.' Over the years I have said many times, Social Security is meant as a supplement, you need to have a retirement plan as your main source of income in your later years. Nobody listened. Now all I hear is complaining and whining about how little they have to live on, and hints that I should be contributing to their retirement years.
werpknarly Yes I will say "throwing money around" billions thrown into the wind hoping for results. The long train waits in Milton oh you mean the rail cars filled with corn. And the new business that broke ground in Milton they looked at us 5 years ago before settling on a location. Nex moving their headquarters to Milton they were going to do that anyway due to a change in ownership.New rail line from Milton to Madison? When did that happen? People refinancing they must figure they should do it now while they still have some equity left. Since most homes have lost value. If Obama would have sent every man woman and child a check out of the billion dollars. People would have spent it locally. And we would be out of this depression by now. Instead we helped the banks who had made bad loans. Now those same banks borrow money from the FED at 0%. If they do loan the money its not at a low interest rate so they are really cashing in. For someone who claims to hate the banks and Wall Street he sure treats them better than he treats the people. He is a failure as a leader and we are now billions in debt with nothing to show for it expect he wants another 50 billion here and 30 billion there. Sad that people cannot see through the smoke and mirrors. And thats not rain falling on your head.
Twenty-three years ago, my first employer in the health care industry said that health care was the job of the future. I was seventeen then and really wasn't thinking about a future but rather a paycheck like any other seventeen year old. My dad had wanted me to 'get into GM' like he did, but it wasn't for me. Twenty three years later I am proud to say that I am still in health care with a college degree, regular raises, a decent compensation package, and a bright future. Thank you JPK (Pete)!!
taxes went up? who's taxes really went up? how much? what tax has president obama raised? Throwing money around? building roads, fixing bridges (so they wont kill people and they can get to work) bringing jobs to janesville, Lab Safety. new businesses in milton. NEX moving headqtrs to milton. stoughton trailer, all lines running... interstates full of semi's moving goods. noticed how long you have to wait for trains at crossings in milton? there not running empty. new rail line from milton to madison to speed commerce and make it more safe... spent some time at a title company friday, they can hardly keep up. mostly refinancing, but that puts more money into owners pocketbook they can spend right away. unemployment checks? every penny is spent close to home supporting small businesses who in turn support other local and regional business (thats pure evil if you ask me). keeping the janesville GM plant out of bankrupt motors corp and in the new GM where it has a chance to reopen. those evil bank bailouts? save our butts AND even AIG is planning to repay all funds ASAP.
Facts101...well, it didn't SPECIFICALLY say Obama, which is perhaps the only way you would recognize it; but oldvet, Sep 17, 2010 at 6:06 a.m. eluded to it....
NVgrf read all the posts before yours and no where could I find anyone blaming Obama. Could it be we are feeling a bit paranoid? Or could it be you see the truth? As for snazzyj1977 keep thinking Republicans are going to lose in November. Only a few more weeks to go and you will see the results.
State employee here too. Job eliminated in 2009, but managed to find another agency for same pay and rank. Since then, 3% decrease in pay due to 8 unpaid furlough days each year, more charge for health insurance, and longer commute translating into higher expense to get to work.
Are you kidding? Raise? What's that? In fact our company is writing people up, because that will stop raises. They started doing that after they put out a wage freeze and hiring freeze. I'm glad to have a job; however, not happy the way this company is going...not gonna mention the company I still need a job until I find another.
No raise, but my electric, water, basic cable, grocery bill, and Internet access all went up. Oh and my taxes as well. That said, I'm doing better than many so I can't complain.
Those on Social Security did NOT get a cost of living raise this year.....yet the cost of living went up....
Those on unemployment received cut off notices, and are no longer counted in the unemployment rates.
Be thankful if you have a job even if wages are frozen and hours are cut. Do not take it for granted, or you could very well wake up tomorrow unemployed and eventually finacially broke, emotionally broken, hungry, and homeless. If you think this can't happen to you....think again, after all no one really believed GM would close either.
I'm employed in Walworth county (no, I will not say where.) I had a 20% pay cut two years ago, no change up or down last year, and no change again this year. My husband received a 2.9% raise from his Verona employer this year.
Some industries are doing fine in this rough economy so the people with the foresight to choose a career in those fields are reaping the benefits as those whose jobs are no long necessary nowadays will slowly be removed.
My advice, enjoy your extra time and learn to live a little more simple. Do you really need a flat screen TV just because your neighbor has one?
No pay raise for the last 3 years, no overtime, pay more for health insurance. Plus insurance plan went from a HMO to an 80/20 plan. Been with this company along time 25+ and this is as bad as I have seen it. We are waiting for the next shoe to drop here shortly. Which is rumored to involve a 25% pay cut. Can hardly wait for that. But I do have a job which means I am better off than most people. And are you kidding about mentioning the name of my company?
Nope but the morons in the white house and Washington DC just keep throwing our money around like drunken sailors. "Another day older and deeper in debt"
As a State of WI employee, only a paycut has appeared on my paycheck over the past couple years. I'm definitely glad to have a job, though. I hope sincerely for all the unemployed who wish to work that things will turn around.
Nope! But having my wage frozen is kinda like getting raise..............
