My method isn't an option either. I have a friend who always buys the newest movies. We just throw a party at his house. He buys the movies. I make dinner. Everyone wins!
We do blockbuster online, which is nice because they also let us rent videogames through our package. And there's no late fees, and you can add movies that are in theaters now so you don't forget about them when they do release to dvds!
Netflix is great. You can also watch current TV show series, catch up on full seasons of shows, and watch old westerns and classic hollywood films. Get a DVD player or tuner with WiFi, then you don't have to plug into the computer.
frogger, you need high speed internet at home to stream movies on Netflix. Most of the newer blue ray dvd players give you an ethernet port. We use a Nintendo Wii, but any new gaming console will be able to stream as well. Some of the new TV's coming out have the ability built in, or you can watch it on your computer, but yes, you need internet.
I cancelled Starz awhile ago and went with Netflix 8.99 plan. You get one movie at a time. Comes out to TWO movies a week. A little over a $1 each sounds better to me than Starz and nothing is ever on.
I do get them free from the library like irish as well. You can get tv shows from the library as well. 3 weeks to watch a season can extend if nobody else has it reserved.
How to you "stream" to your TV? I don't have Internet at home.
$10 a month for Netflix with unlimited streaming is quite a deal. The downside is that new releases are hard to get. I disconnected cable 2 years ago because of it. For new releases I'd check in to the new Apple TV which also gives you access to your netflix account. It's all cheaper than cable.
If you subscribe to Netflix and do the one DVD at a time option for just under $10/month, you will spend more than that renting two movies at Blockbuster. And with the streaming option, the possibilities are nearly endless. I've subscribed for over a year and have been nothing but pleased. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot!
Netflix streamed straight to the tv and by mail for only$9 a month.Tons of movies to watch and streamed to the tv is the way of the future. I now have no need for any premium movie channels, saving me $ and the amount of content far exceeds any premium channel.
Myself and hubby aren't big movie watchers either, but if we get in the mood, we watch a free one on on demand with Charter. I'd rather watch shows, such as the Mentalist or Minute to Win it, or Wheel of Fortune, etc. Not a big movie fan, I can't sit still long enough!
None of the above. If I watch a movie, it's usually on a regular cable channel such as AMC or Turner Classic Movies. I used to catch all of the latest movies at the theater, but that part of my life pretty much ended in the last 10 years or so.
For those who tend to watch a huge amount of movies like I do and haven't tried Netflix, it's a great money saver. With the cost of rentals at the video store, your membership with Netflix pays for itself after about 4 DVD's. They also have a much larger list of movies to choose from, so if you're into the obscure and indie films, Netflix will most likely have it. Give it a try. The first month I believe is free.
I see most movies on DVD when I can check them out from the library. It's free and I'm not out anything if the movie is bad.

Why isn't network TV an option here? That is by far the biggest source of movies.

Two sites to watch full movies and other programs for free online are hulu.com and fancast.com. Neither one cost a cent.
