how about "NOT" not going near janesville friday, not going to fight crowds to save $10 on unneeded junk... AND NOT about to equate christmas with shopping.
Please, all of you who go out on Black Friday, keep in mind that those people who are working are usually making minimum wage or a hair more. For me, that's not nearly enough to put up with what they have to on that day, let alone getting up that early to get to work.
i'll be out there in the parking lot by 4am. been doing it for 10 years and not about to stop. one year i took the kids and they ended up on the front page of the gazette and in the new york times.
I worked at Target for 6 years and saw the craziness that happens on Black Friday.....however shopping on that day is a family tradition in our family. So I will be going out.....very early!!! We never buy that much but I'm not one to mess with tradition and it always ends up being a great day with lots of memories.
whose got money to shop with? consider yourselves fortunate !!! Wall Street people have others do their shopping lol. Main street people are trying to make ends meet this Christmas season !!
Black Friday, in my opinion, is the worst Friday of the entire year. I hate how greedy people are and how they NEED to get that sale item!! I realize that not every Black Friday shopper is greedy, they're just taking advantage of a good deal. However, there are very many rude people out there on that day who act as though they're 5 years old again. Look at what happened last year at Wal-Mart (I think it was in NY). Some pregnant lady got TRAMPLED and ended up having a miscarriage. How is that even necessary??
I'm glad to support my local business, but I won't spend hundreds of dollars more on a inferior branded laptop just because it was offered for sale at a non-chain store.
Lenovo laptops (ThinkPads) are some of the best on the market, and they're selling this Friday very cheaply.
For you laptop shoppers - a reminder from channel 3 this morning:
----
64% of dollars spent a locally owned & operated stores goes back into the community. 41% of dollars spent at a chain or "big box" store goes back into the community 0% of online purchase dollars are recycled locally.

Something to keep in mind when shopping this year. Support your local businesses!
I think the next poll should be ... How many times were you asked to donate to a cause while shopping today ? I was out the other day and went to The Dollar Tree , Applebees and to Woodmans . I was asked at every place to donate . I do donate as much as I can but I don't need to feel hounded ! I know there are a lot of causes but it doesn't make you feel very good when you have to say no because you have put money in every other pot you came across that day ! ... How much is to much ? How much do you think you will donate this holiday season ? Please note I am also signed up to ring the bell for the Salvation Army . That is also part of my donation ! My Time .
hannah, I know you'll understand the point I've already made (and the obvious one most people can see), but only if my assumptions are incorrect. Good night ^_^
Been doing my Christmas shopping online for a couple of years so it isn't the major nuisance it once was. I hated shopping...hunting for a parking space, waiting in traffic, growing old in the lengthy check-out lines, etc. Now I grab my Discover card, a tall icy glass of Sundrop and fire up the ol' laptop. With just a little bit of bird-dogging you can find amazing sales on items in places that also offer free shipping for delivery straight to my door. Love it!
No shopping! Working! Laughing my buns off at the retailer across the street, and all the people lined up outside their doors! Still have to warn my other half before I leave for work..... DO NOT GO INTO TOWN TODAY!....PERIOD!! Know I will still hear, when I get home; NEVER GO INTO TOWN THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING!!!!! Yes, "I TOLD YOU SO!" Tradition....... speaks for itself!
hannah, please start spelling my name right. You continuously screw it up. And yeah, I know it was over two weeks long. Why do you think I made the comment just now? Maybe I was making a joke ... ???
Because of the choices- or in this case, the lack of choices, I didn't vote. I just clicked on "results and comments" to get in here and read the very predictable comments about not have the "won't go at all" choice.
I guess I am in the minority here...LOL.... I will be one of those who are up at 4am to get in line for the deals. I never had a bad experience yet. Most of the time I meet new people and have great conversations. Several times I even have been helped or was able to help others find their gift items. * As for the sales...YES some are great deals, that I cannot pass up. A $3 crock pot or toaster. A $7 8GB thumb drive, and such. If it were not for these sales, I would not be able to afford much for presents. Most of the items on my list are not just wants, (no tv's or x boxes) but rather practical needs (crock pot & toaster) and if I can help family out with these much needed items, then getting up early and waiting out in line makes it all worth it. *
Right on futurerichguy! > I am not a member of that herd, the flock does not call to me either. > They are persistant though....Baaaaa, Baaaaa, you must CONSUME, CONSUME. > You must wait for hours in long lines to give all your money to the Chinese, and endure suicidal traffic behavior to complete the ritual. > Lemmings is right...
Irish_Mafia... I didn't almost get killed, but I saw plenty of opportunities to die. I'm right there with you :-D. I will avoid leaving the house at all, if possible.
I do not shop on "Black Friday". I was nearly killed one year. I won't do it again.
