I understand the reason behind having DST, but really can you change time? I always thought that time ws one of the constant things in life, that it was something you could not change, just like the wether and the stars & planets... oops I forgot they changed Pulto from a official planet to a dwarf planet (or whatever it was LOL) Just leave nature alone it has done well for the planet for the last how many millions of years without us mere humans screwing thing up.
Many people enjoy and need the extra hour(s) of sunlight during this time. The beginning of DST marks a time of year when Spring is coming very soon and we are leaving the Winter blahs - great for mental health!
Let me think about this for a second. Under current DST, it starts getting light at 4:30 a.m. in mid June. If we don't do DST, it will start getting light about 3:30 a.m. Hmm, windows open, birds chirping at 3:30 a.m. No thanks, I like my light in the evening.
beeferer: Yes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Time... . I think DST still has value but probably not as much as it did. Whereas a century ago it probably made a major difference in energy consumption, today what it saves is difficult to measure (lighting is less than 5% of energy usage now). Certainly the semi-annual changeover itself has associated costs.
interesting idea. how do you SPLIT the dirrerence anyway??? i say, daylight savings time year round. that way i don't have to figure out my computer, watches, clocks, t.v.s, radios, ovens, and everything else with a computer twice a year.

You're still getting more sunlight per day, no matter WHAT time it is.
I wish they'd just leave the clocks alone.

BTW, it's Daylight Saving Time, not saving - no "s" at the end.

C'mon, how could the crops not know the difference of an additional hour of sunlight?

I doubt the crops know the difference.

I think it would be nice if they split the difference and then left it alone...No more gaining or losing an hour...

Do they utilize daylight savings time in Alaska?
