One of the best speeches; EVER!
Now let's all pitch in, yes even the coach potatoes, and get this country fired up again. Most of us are to darn lazy to do anything but bitch and complain from a computer; me included.

I wonder if all the liberals that moved to Canada when Bush was elected are going to come back now? OH yea they were only kidding...too bad.

OK snazzy if its only four years...yea right. You know the democrats are going to give Obama everything he wants for the first 4 years to make him and themselves look good. Its the last 4 years...when reality comes home that bothers me.

Please do not step so low as to "hate" the president. Don't buy in to the liberals who will tell you that they didn't hate Bush, but just disagreed with him. That is a bunch of BS. I didn't vote for Obama, and I will probably not agree with much he has to offer, but I am an American, and I want him to succeed for the good of the country. If he succeeds, America succeeds. I will give him the respect he deserves as our leader. That is way more than what the liberals gave Bush. Don't hate the man/position, just hate his ideas.

The government is using Obama's popularity to try to gain the peoples trust. Just take a step back for a moment and think about it. Do you really think it was all the dems planning to do this? The country is broke, the economy is crashing, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The government needed a huge boost and they are using Obama's popularity to do it. The government knows it will lose control if it gets so bad that we lose our HOPE.

I missed it did anyone see Obama walk on water or part the waters? Just wondering since liberals seem to think he is Jesus Christ. Another question am I allowed to hate this president no matter how he does? Just wondering if its ok to practice what the liberals have done the last 8 years.

I think it's funny that people will bicker between the TWO parties. They think it's either the Reps or the Dems. NOT!!!! There ARE two groups and they are called the HAVES and HAVE NOTS. The HAVES just took $700 Billion from the HAVE NOTS and they are laughing. Go ahead...keep bickering....

does seem strange that they would spend all this money on parties , when so many in america dont have jobs anymore, they would be happy to get a happy meal

Fun facts:
.
Only Woodrow Wilson in 1913 did not have any inaugural balls.
.
Balls were fairly austere during the 30s and 40s; Eisenhower had only two in 1953 and four in 1957. JFK had five in 1961.
.
In 1996, Clinton had the most -- 14.
.
Bush and Cheney spent the most money: $30 million in 2001 and $40 million for nine balls in 2005.
.
Obama spent $27 million on ten balls in 2009, one entire ball for veterans of the current conflicts in Central Asia.
.
From what I am able to ascertain: the money for the balls themselves is NOT taxpayers' but all of the extra security around D.C. is.
.
The $700 billion in bailout money would pay for this years festivities nearly 26,000 times.

The whole thing is a joke that's not ending any time soon. All the money being spent everyday so far since the guy took office for celebrations.. when the U.S. is closer (if not there) to a depression. Families on the streets because of greedy bankers, THAT WE TAXPERS are now supporting to the tune of (what's the number) $700,000,000,000. All we have to show for that money so far is.... nada. Everyone targeted for layoffs at the banks, BEFORE the welfare to the rich & crooked, are still laid off.. more happening everyday.. Jeeprs! I have to run to whitewater.. Guess i'll have to cut this short.

Washington is a joke, & we'd be better off if we didn't have to read about them at all (Indigestion every time)..

Taxes going up? That canard was destroyed during the second and third debates. Or is it that you make well over $250,000 per year, do not own a business, and/or are incapable of itemizing your deductions?
.
First full day in office: yeah, I guess nothing has happened... oh except frozen the pay of White House staffers, required same staff to sign on to higher ethical accounting standards, sought further bailout money (with which I do not agree), asked for and has already received a prompt suspension of Gitmo military tribunals, and directed govermental agencies to more broadly interperet and approve FOIA requests.
.
This last point is critical vis-a-vis a free press and a well-informed citizenry as envisioned by the Framers.
.
I'll half agree with localboy that the fawning in the press and in the public ("Happy Obama Day" and "United States of Obama" were the two most egregious examples I saw yesterday) over Obama is disturbing; however, the relationship between the press and the President is a two-way street. Bush at times showed considerable contempt for the White House Press Corps and news agencies in general (with the exception, perhaps, of FOX News): he had the fewest number of press conferences of any President in modern times (an amazing fact since we are in two wars and he has labeled himself a "war president"), refused to call on Helen Thomas (who has covered every president since JFK) for over three years, shut reporters who asked hard-hitting questions out of briefings and overseas trips, etc. This is not behavior condusive to having the press corps fawning over you.
.
Part and parcel of having the fewest press conferences is having -- by far -- the most days away from the White House of any President who has ever had his residence there: 487 days at Camp David and another 490 days in Crawford or fully a third of his eight years spent in retreats.
.
I may not agree with many of Obama's positions but having a well-informed and hands-on individual who is seeking strong ethical (not moral `a la President Bush) standards and greater transparency in government back in the Oval Office is a refreshing change.

It just shows you the power of the press. If the press is for the president, he can't do any wrong. If they don't like him, it will be a long ride (just ask Bush). Obama hasn't even done anything and you would think he saved the world. That is the liberal press for you.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's all a bunch of pomp. He hasn't done anything yet & I can bet all this change everyone is wanting is going to be slow going if we see any at all. There's only so much a man can do.

A bunch of us who worked on the campaign @the democratic headquarters in Janesville got together to celebrate and watch the Inauguration. It was great to see the people I worked so hard with. We all felt like we helped make this happen.

I watched it on television.

The schools my kids attend had it on in each classroom for much of the morning. My one son calls him "Uh-rock Uh-bomb-uh" and was sooo excited he won the election. So, while driving him to school yesterday morning I mentioned that by the time he got out of school, we'd have a new president. I asked if he knew if they were watching the inauguration and he replied he didn't think so. I bet him that they would (I can remember watching Clinton's and GHWB's inaugurations in school). So, we bet that if they DID watch it, HE had to clean his room. And, if the DID NOT watch it, I had to clean his room......I don't think he will be a betting man when he grows up after last night! LOL :)

I thought Michelle looked like a classic during the inauguration itself. However, I was disappointed by her inaugural ball gown. To me, all that was missing was some chenille pom pom fringe.

Here's to our future and UNITING across ALL lines...party, racial, gender and economic!

If President Obama can deliver on half of what he wants to do during his term(s), we'll be in a much better position in the world. I really believe he's going to lessen the divide between left and right and unify our country in a way we haven't seen in a long time. For all our sake, I hope he's successful. Just remember, change isn't going to come overnight.

Here's hoping we can step forward refreshed, renewed, reinfigorated and determined to finally become "America filled with Americans"! Lets leave behind the dividing of African-American,Latin-American,and so on,to become just "AMERICANS"! Our world has long ago left behind the seperated family lines, blood lines if you must. We have become a country filled thru all,in all,by all,and for all..Americans! We need no further names. Wishes,MrO!
