Should Janesville’s city council reconsider finalists from the first round when completing interviews from the second round of city manager candidates?
JANESVILLEAN::::Ooops... my bad. In that case, I don't see why they wouldn't consider pre-applicants if they are eligible canidates. Guess I am not up on all this stuff, I kinda live in a hick town.... Most employers keep applications on file for a year don't they?
I know, let's vote on them. Then, when we don't get who we want, we can have a referendum, spend hundreds of thousands, create controversy, mayhem for the city and council, change our minds, try to get a mayor, and end up with Steve back because we did'nt read the contract correctly.
lakennedy, the candidates were "solid", but there just wasn't a clear choice between them and the citizen committee was divided. It was my impression (or at least my expectation) that the consultants would tweak the applicant requirements this round. . optimism, this isn't an election. It's a hiring process. Only if someone was explicitly rejected would I (as an employer) refuse to reconsider them.
Should the United States of America consider canidates from prior elections along with current canidates for the president of the United States? I believe every election should be started from scratch, no matter what level.
Good hiring practice REQUIRES beginning the process again. No one would want to accept a position knowing they were "2nd best", imho. I wonder if any temporary workers have relatives that they would like to "encourage" to refer. LOL
I thought the reason the council was conducting second round interviews was because there weren't any solid candidates in the first round... I might be wrong, please correct me if I am...

If the first round finalists were not good enough to hire, why would they be good enough in the second round?
