candyappler- i watched movies at the big screen- sorta- i was told NOT to watch. there was a scary movie on . their was a sherrif in a mint green jail office- there was a lady they hung up and cut out her tounge- i guess i peaked. i was very young. i remember when sumac ended just past randolph road- all fields. opening of shopko was "LIKE THE GRANDIST thing" it seemed.
I was born at home on a farm where Shopko now stands. My earliest memory is of the HUGE face of an actress on the old Hy 26 outdoor theater screen. Moved to south of Janesville on Avalon Road three years later where I grew up. Moved to Walworth County mid 70's and returned to Janesville in '96.
Born in California, lived in Janesville from age 9 to 18. College: Whitewater, then > Madison. Graduated moved to Chicago to work, got married. Moved to Los Angeles, CA. God bless Janesville. My parents are there, so it's still "home." I still have family and friends in Janesville. Nice to visit and I appreciate many things about it, but would not want to live there, too cold in the winter and too homogenous. I prefer big city life. Many of my Parker high school friends moved to towns in Wis. (Dells, Fond du Lac, Oregon) or out of state to Indiana (for GM), Arizona, Florida.
Madison - moved to Janesville and I like it here with the conservatives. It was really nice to go to the Rock County fair this year and not need to worry about gang bangers with their pants hanging down past their butt like you see at the Dane county fair! . I hear so many negative comments from people here but the town seems relativly safe to me. The forth ward is nothing compared to Allied Dr. in Madison.
Born and grew up in Detroit for 12 years. Parents moved to the Chicago area after the auto industry went to hell in Detroit. Lived in chi town a couple years, and then moved to S. Beloit. Been in the Janesville/Beloit area the last couple years.
I lived several years in Janesville, and two other larger cities. I once saw a quote from Mark Neumann about Madison being an island of liberalism surrounded by reality. Ironic, because I see it as diametrically opposed when living in Janesville... the real extreme, an island of conservatism surrounded by reality. People say move out if you don't like it. Well, I certainly did, as I do not want my children to be corrupted by narrow, righteous, exploitive, and judgmental right wingers.
Waupaca, Appleton, Menasha, Green Bay, Black Earth, Rhinelander, Elcho, Minocqua, Pelican Lake, Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Whitefish Montana, Canmore British Columbia. Be happy! Janesville has more services for less tax dollars of any of these. And one of the nicest bunches of people anywhere- hard working, family oriented and responsible. Yes, blue-collar and proud of it, as well they should be.
Born and raised in Monroe, WI. Lived there 37 yrs. Met my future husband who lived in Jvl all his life, but was working in Browntown, WI. Got married and moved here in 1990 and am still here. I like Janesville because it is still small town enough yet has more shopping options (Mall and grocery stores) than Monroe. I frequently see Monroe people shopping here.
born in janesville, lived in milton, moved to janesville, orfordville, janesville, milton. then took off when i was 17 and traveled a little. kansas, oklahoma, indiana, florida, and virginia back to indiana. then came home to milton. then went to arkansas. came back home to milton, moved to platteville, montfort, darlington, then back to milton, janesville, now edgerton. but home is where my mom is!
Born: Monroe,WI -> Albany, WI -> Orangeville , Il-> brodhead/Juda Wi cuz my parents property is in the middle and then i moved here in 2000 and havent left
motherof2- yeah that will really get the economy boosted huh? :>(( i hope that doesnt pass. i drive a nice car affordably because i lease it. now i have to pay tax on the value- so stupdid. kinda like if you improve your home your taxes will go up. double edge sword here i alway think.
Lake Mills, in Jefferson County. Moved to Janesville when I met my husband in 1990. We used to travel to Madison or Milwaukee along I94 when I was a teen and saw much WORSE than I have seen here as of yet. I love Janesville. We have a mall (small mall, but a mall) and has a small town feel.
Walworth Co.,... Los Angeles... Naples... Janesville... This area has been the best I have seen/lived in. There is a sense of pride in community and caring for our friends and neighbors. Many areas are not so fortunate. Taxes (property and income) are high, but the city is well cared for (for the most part) and we have excellent parks.
FYI Hannah... The state is considering a "graduated" registration and eliminating the tax credit on your trade in value. (i.e., you will be paying the full amount of sales tax on the purchase price of your new or used vehicle and your registration will be based on the value of your vehicle each year.)
Grew up in Superior, WI; moved to Whitewater, WI for 9th grade; moved to Janesville just in time to start 10th grade; and then moved back to Superior, WI after graduation.
jvl born and raised. no desire to move I like it here. I am sure the things that make people mad here would be the same anywhere maybe just a different form. example no state taxes in some places but then sales tax is more or registration on cars here- people complain theyre to high. i mention how would you like to pay in seattle when it is based on the VALUE of you auto!!- again no state tax but huge registration. or maybe arizona is cheaper some ways but how about water how much would that be!!!??????
I was born in Monroe,WI., lived in Argyle,WI., moved to Independence, IA., then moved to Council Bluffs, IA., moved to Moorhead, MN., till graduated from high school, moved to Janesville, then moved to Orfordville where I live now.
born in Sheboygan -moved many many times, but i always found my parents. came to Janesville 42 years ago for a job (GM) and been paying taxes here ever since. & spending money at our local merchants.
born and raised in J-ville. Moved out of state for insignificant periods of time. Janesville will ALWAYS be home, though, no matter where I hang my hat.
Born elsewhere but have lived 99% of my adult life in Janesville. Moved alot after high school, but came back. Guess you can "go back home".
