Stewey, this is an honest question-no sarcasm, no snide or hurtful intent. Just a combination of confusion and curiousity. Did you used to be a McCain supporter, then switched allegiance to Obama? If so, congratulations on showing that you've paid attention, researched and decided that it your right and responsibility to change your mind when you feel it is prudent(I would have said it no matter which way the switch).
Otherwise, as I follow many stories and their comments and become familiar with the feelings and attitides of many posters, I remember some of your earlier postings and had a distinct feeling that you were not an "obimbo" (as you called him) supporter. And your posts went from the extremes of well spoken to, well, almost baby-talk. Do you have family members who might post in your name? That could be confusing to those you are trying to reach.
I know-not really any of my business (except that you are speaking to the general public), but I just had to ask.

Lakekennedy- I'm a huge Obama supporter but, I will have two tell you that they weren't yelling terrorist or kill him they were yelling give it to him. FYI. I know it doesnt sound as cool as kill him but, we can't spead lies and expect to win.

I voted for the OBAMA-BIDEN ticket. It can't be as bad as the BUSH-CHENEY ticket and it"s got to be better than the McCAIN-PALIN ticket.

I'm surprised that all the political discussion here about the economy hasn't spurred the discussion about the additional expense of early voting to your municipality. There's additional staff time, additional hours on Saturdays if they offer it, postage and envelopes to those who wish to have their absentees mailed for convenience (and the municipality pays both ways, which makes me wonder why I'm not reimbursed for my gas when I drive to the polls and wait in line!)Just a reminder to be "mindful" that the convenience comes at a cost, small it may be, but you are paying for it. The polls are the most cost efficient way to run an election in my eyes and waiting in line is a small price to pay for the freedom and responsibility of casting a vote for the leader of my nation.

Amen billnewbie. I also believe that's commonly known as cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. Who do you think you are hurting by hoping the other candidate fails if elected?

What is the future going to be? One has to be concerned when the Gazette can’t even have a forum on the value of absentee ballots without the discussion degenerating into a partisan food fight. What chance does the next administration have of uniting this country when so many see political enemies in their neighbors? Those who are about to win relish the vengeance they intend to take over their defeated foes. Those who are about to lose intend to undermine the victors, virtually guaranteeing the winners’ failure to succeed with the hopes of an electoral victory in the next election. Partisanship is a vicious cycle indeed.

I know what you mean, Polert. It must be very difficult to be affilliated with the supporters of McCain and Palin who are screaming out "terrorist" and "cut off his head" and "kill him" at their rallies. That would be tough. Although, come to think of it, McCain and Palin supporters definitely have to have mastered the art of rationalization, otherwise how could they still be supporting them?

After seeing how Obama supports are obstructing traffic for people attending Mccain rallies, and vandalising peoples property I am sure most people are considering if they want to be associated with that type of group.

The voting system in Janesville, and Milton have always been very efficient with no wait. The people that setup the system in the past did a great job.

If you believe voting early is best go ahead, but I am just suggesting not to because I Know what can happen.

polert,
How does voter REGISTRATION fraud that ACORN brings to the attention of election officials affect your vote?
IF there was some pollworker out there who would look at your ballot and call you to get you to change your vote, they would have to do so on the day of the election, in front of other workers and voters. They would be breaking the law and you would easily get them convicted.
You should stop your lying and fear-mongering. You are much more likely to be refused the right to vote due to a ridiculous voter purge (which, with same day registration does not matter in WI) or in the states with electronic voting machines with no paper trail, electronic voting machines.

Right, then if Obama is elected one can get use to standing in line to collect their government handout. As what little wealth in the country is left gets spread around.

I think everyone should stand in line to vote on election day.
That way, they can get a feel for what it will be like to stand in the soup line if McCain gets elected.

Army,

It isn't a computer "Alagorithm", although I absolutely love the terminology, its the electoral college that "picks" the winner based on their own states population. I'd like to see it be gone, myself, but the constitution is what it is. Besides that, they don't even start giving exit polling numbers out until the polls have closed in each states times zone(s).

Polert,

You statement "Heck it is hard to know what can happen" is the reason I vote early. After what seems like an eternity in the presidential race (including primaries) I know who I am voting for no matter what happens in the next 13 days. I looked harder at the other races that are important to me and made my decisions based on the merits of each individual. Therefore, nobody will be slashing my tires or pulling any other shananigans to keep me from voting for who I want! (Note: I've never heard of this happening in Janesville, but other cities have had this problem)

With this acorn problem going on I would rather vote that day. There has been stranger thing happening with your name, and voter number. You may acquire a new friend when you vote early, and they have your name to go with your voter number, and could look at your vote to only call you to change your mind. Vote for who you would like to vote for but placing only one vote, and not revoting when you change your mind sound more fool proof. Ask yourself do you pay for a New Car before it comes in on the truck, and you have inspected it.

polert,
You are more than welcome to vote early and then change your vote. If a person votes early but changes their mind, they simply need to show up to the polls to vote. Prior to being given a ballot, they will be given voter number, that number is recorded. When the absentee ballots are processed (which should be after the polls close), the processor will see that the voter has shown up in person to vote and the envelope and ballot will be placed in the appropriate bag. Polling places should wait until the end of the day to process but some locations do process slightly earlier. I recommend that anyone who votes absentee but changes their mind show up as early in the day as possible to be certain that this has not happened.

If you are dissatisfied with the choice in candidates write in "vote of no confidence" or "none of the above".

If you vote on time you may regret it. You never know what will happen with the candidate in office. Polert, I don't believe you propose a strong argument.

If you vote early you may regret it. Even smart people that are hard set on a candidate change their minds on election day. It is better to wait so you can get it all taken care of in one step. Heck it is hard to know what can happen.

there has been an increase in the number of felons throughout the nation, which prohibits them from voting as well... besides, why vote when the government bases the results off of some computer algorithm in opposition to popularity?? polls don't close until a certain time at night, and yet, miraculously, one candidate wins a state in electoral vote prior to all people who are voting get to/leave the polls... what's the point?? a computer decides who wins and gets the grand prize of Presidency for a term... 2 if they decide to run again and get lucky...

tibetrin,
Frivolous write-ins just make more work for the poll workers. They have to count and document all write-in votes at the end of an already long day. I strongly encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote but would also encourage them not to waste the time of poll workers.

Filling out a postcard and spending a few cents to request a ballot is a lot faster than driving to the polls, waiting for an hour or two to vote, and then driving home. I love absentee ballots!

Rather than say "there isn't anyone I can possible vote for"...why don't you go to the polls and write in someone's name. At least that way, you are doing your part and voting. Even if it is for Mickey Mouse of Daffy Duck. Heck, I have even heard people say they are voting for IronMan.
