Ale: Your candidate lost, so now you're going to take your ball and go home. Charity should begin in your heart, not with your party affiliation. They just may be the reason for all the need in society.
ale,you dont have to stop!! So many out there appreciate your contributions.Believe me,I have seen many smiles recently due to others contributions! Please dont lose heart and, more importantly,DONT GIVE UP!!
Jax, that's basically what we're doing this year (for the first time). Our parents used to give us some cash (silly, as we're all adults and can all pay our own way). THIS year, Mom asked, "Would you guys mind if we just donated it all to a charity?" (In this case, Touched By A Paw, our local no-kill cat shelter). We all unanimously agreed "YES!" What a good feeling we'll have knowing that we did something towards the true spirit of Christmas.
"Charity" isn't just about giving money. The gift of a person's "heart" through their donated "time" is as much needed as anything. Some things you can't put a price on.
I can also say that thanks to angelwings idea of her free sale, my giving has been up. My advocacy for helping others has been as well because of her idea. The one thing that came out of the free sale was the community coming together to help each other and it would be great to see it continue. Help angelwings continue her idea by visiting her web site at www.freestuffatangelwings.org. It was a great thing she started, now help it continue!
Instead of buying gifts for the adults in my hubby's side of the family, we have a great meal together, the kids get gifts, & the adults donate what we would have spent on gifts to a charity of our choice. It got silly with each of us basically buying each other the same thing or gift cards, so we decided to help those in need instead.
My family has always had what they needed.I really didnt understand how many families dont.Thank you to angelwings and her friends for opening our eyes!
Although my income is slowley dwindling, those who have always had less than me, I am sure are also losing more of their income and are giving less. I try to keep the 'giving' at the same level, hoping there is a difference being made.
I may give more this year. I have done very well shorting the markets, as as I predicted the credit collapse and its effects on the markets, well over a year ago.
I have increased the donation of my time this year. I understand that a lot of us may not afford to give financially, but who can't spare two hours? Call Salvation Army and volunteer.
My charitable giving is a percent of salary and has stayed the same. The salary in general...

I try to make up for what I've lacked in monetary contributions with my time, but even that is hard. I'll keep doing what I can, though.
