i would feel safer if i could understand what the guy running the ride was saying, he had all his teeth, and he wasnt so darn busy puffing on that cigarette.

MikeF - I'll be sitting under the tree with you! I used to love the rides, not anymore. My head and stomach just don't stay together after them anymore...on the other hand, I still want safer rides for my son and the rest of my fam and friends. Rides should be subject to rigorous pre-startup checks and should be inspected by the state on a regular basis.

I've always been too big of a wimp to go on anything.

My reason for voting no has less to do with the safety of the ride and more to do with the age of my body. I just cannot handle the rides anymore.
I used to love rides like the scrambler and roller coasters, but this old body just don't work like it used to. The merry-go-round is all about I can do now.

Gas prices will affect me more than the safety concerns.

It won't have any effect on me, I don't ride 'em anymore, but I wouldn't DISCOURAGE people from riding them. Wisconsin reports its accident data and does good inspections overall: http://www.saferparks.org/database/accid...

If you look at the records, you'll note relatively few accidents and most sound like things that could have happened in your own home or are at least partially attributable to rider stupidity vs. ride safety.

I read an article in Good Housekeeping in the June issue which suggested the problem lies more with the bigger theme parks which do in-house "testing" and then state officials just audit their self-checks. www.goodhousekeeping.com/saferides has some tips.

wow.... 14 in a row said no, making the negative response at 100% right now.

The rides are usually pretty lame, and I don't care if they increase the safety.
