See what urban sprawl did to the county fairgrounds? Save the county fairgrounds by putting it in a place that urban sprawl will never touch it again.

I grew up in a county where they kept taking land away from the fairgrounds until it was too compact to even have parking. Childhood memories are discolored by the reality of a multi million dollar strip mall as a replacement.

It doesn't make a difference WHERE it is, as long as the county and it's citizens protect it and the groups and clubs that participate in the fair.

I agree with Hockey Jockey we should of listened to Fitz and Ken Hendricks south of Janesville off I 39 where they proposed it!

Come on, folks.
Preserve and protect natural resources for future generations. Farmland is Rock Countys largest available natural resource. Some others are the Rock River, all it's tributaries and wetlands, the sandstone aquifer, and the sand and gravel outwash plains.

PEOPLE- there are many green groups/people in the area coming together in support of the more eco-friendly ways of life in Rock County. WE are educated, fed up with current policy/practice, and are forming alliances with each other for the betterment of Rock County. We are already working on common issues that affect our communities county-wide.

Contact castg5447@uwc.edu with any questions on how to get involved.

"The Fair Board and Rock County need to think "big!""

Sorry if I laugh at that comment. You want to sink a big chunk of money into something that is used really once a year. Plus we know how Janesville people really love to spend their money (hope you caught the sarcasm). I do think that putting a new Snappers stadium in would be great if, and only if they follow the model of the Round Rock Express which were one of the first Minor League teams to actually turn a sizeable profit. Here is a link to their stadium: http://www.roundrockexpress.com/default....

Maybe it could be ABC Supply diamond and actually get some corporate dollars spent in Janesville like a real city.

No matter where the fair ends up...it needs to be moved out of it's current location. It's very important for the fair's future. The Fair Board and Rock County need to think "big!" Plan something that can be utilized all year long. I know many events that would love to be held at a new facility in Janesville/Rock County. Madison isn't as "Ag" friendly as it once was. I have a feeling that many "Ag" events currently held at the Alliant Energy Center would move to Janesville.

I thought having a combined fairgrounds and Snappers stadium along the I south of Janesville was a great idea. Can't that be pursued again?

Why is there so much debate about where to hold an annual weeklong festival? That is usually too expensive and too lame for most of the residents to attend. I wouldn't mind paying at the gate and paying for tickets for every single short ride but I am tired of listening to loud country music the whole time too. And I know that parking is an issue, maybe people should get off their butts and walk! It's alot easier to walk there now then it will be out in the country. Save the gas money so you can afford to throw a ball in a fish tank after an annoyingly pushy carnie convinced you into doing.

So what if there is a jail close by.
It`s not as if the prisoners are going
to bother anyone. I`m sure it`s pretty safe.
Sometimes people get thoughts in their
heads and blow things way out of proportion.

The area may be a good site for a new fairgrounds, but how many people will be upset with it being so close to the jail.
