Just had to make another post on this poll. CC was a great trade for the Brewers and he showed it today!

The best play on the betting exchanges is now ST LOUIS. This can not set up any better then it just has. The Brewers and Cubs get ALL the media hype with the big trades, all the while St Louis flys under the radar, and the price for them to win the division goes up and up (now around +700-800 on most the exchanges). What a total value play this is. This is almost as good as it was getting +350 on Obama to win the democratic primary, when all those idiots actually believed Hillary was the candidate to beat before Super Tuesday!

St Louis has managed to stay in this race despite having many players on IR. They have a clear advantage over the Cubs and Brewers in management, as Lurussa makes either Yost or Pinella look silly. How many games will Yost cost the Brewers this year down the stretch? Last year, I counted 7 (and that was being liberal). How about tonight? Putting in the erratic/total gas can; G. Mota in a ONE RUN game????? Another great pitching move by Yost in a close game.

I was at the game last night to see CC pitch. It was definitely a post season kind of atmosphere. Tonight's game brought me back to reality. Mota needs to go....NOW.

So much for one guy making a difference. The bullpen is horrible.

Hey Kid....if you want to talk about trips to the DL, look at Mr. Sheets. In Harden's 6 trips to the DL, he has never had surgery. Who did the Cubs give up that is going to help them this year????? A minor league catcher??? 2 outfielders that were only called up because of injuries???? A pitcher that was only called up because of injuries, who they replaced with in the trade. Don't forget Gaudin was in the deal too, look up his numbers, he's not bad either. I hope you Brewer fans enjoy this year, cuz next year you will be without Sheets and CC, while the Cubs will still have Harden. Good luck waiting another 16 years, just to have a chance to be in the playoff hunt.

La Porta stayed all 4 years in college. Braun came out his Junior year. He was drafted by the Cubs in 2003 amateur draft but, chose to play baseball at Florida. Then he was drafted by Boston in 2006. But, choose to go back to Florida to finish his senior season. Who knows what would have been the case with Braun if Cory Koskie didn't get hurt. Braun may have not been called up.

the brewers didnt HAVE to offer prince a contract. they sould have but he will be arbitration eliglible next year, which means he will get PAID. by the brewers ONLY. ryan howard 10 mill/year?? the brewers do own the rites to prince i believe thru 2012. like the braun contract only bought out 2 years of free agency. he woulda been a brewer for the next 6 regardless.

excluding the estrada trade, mr melvin has yet to make a mistake. thetruth is dead on here. the simple fact that we are buyers this year instead of sellers(sheets). as for the laporta better than braun at this point in his career. WRONG. braun(drafted as SS) played college ball and was 23 years old when he played 34 games of college ball, and went on to win the national league MVP. laporta is 23 now and currently the top(former) prospect in AA. after this long, the playoffs ARE the world series to brewer FANS. and yeah, good job to the cubs gettin rich hardin 'time stayin off the DL'. 6 trips in 6 years, is that what i heard?? but im sure he'll reverse the curse;) if yer ever at a game an you see some peeps partyin next to an old white aerostar with the old school logos, retired numbers, and '1982 AL Champs' hand painted on it, stop by an say high:)

Making the playoffs is good enough? That's a positive comment. They would have probably made it without Sabathia. So much for trying to achieve excellence. La Porta has better stats than Braun had at the same time in his career. Has Braun panned out? Fielder signed a one year contract March 2nd of this year. Nothing long term so, the Brewers aren't willing to give him a long term deal just yet.

Speaking of the Cubs: I grew up outside Chicago and also Rockford. I have always been, and probably always will be, a Cubs fan. Now that I live in Wisconsin, I do root for the Brewers, but only when they're not playing the Cubs! Anyway, when I lived in Rockford, the sports on TV and in the paper would always report on the Cubs, the White Sox and the Brewers. What is it with the Wisconsin news sources? They rarely mention the Cubs or the White Sox. You can rarely find Cub news on these Gazette pages either! I know, I know, you Brewer fans are now gonna say something disparaging about the Cubs now, but seriously, there are a lot of Cub fans in this area, and whether Brewer fans like it or not, some coverage on the Cubs is warranted!

Seabee - "No way the Crew wins jack squat" is an interesting statement to make, recalling that they beat the Cubs in 4 out of 6 games AT WRIGLEY! If the Brewers are a minor league team, what does that make the Cubs? Now they have added the best pitcher on the market without giving up anyone who was going to contribute at the Major League level this year, unlike the deal the Cubs made. I'd still guess the odds are against the Brewers taking the central, but I do know this gives them a better shot. It will be an interesting race.

Uh oh.....The Cubs just got Rich Harden....Well, at least all you Brewer fans could dream for 1 day. No way the Crew wins jack squat. They were nothing but a minor league team yesterday, and nothing but a minor league team today that happens to have CC.

TheTruth - well said. Speaking as someone who once regularly attended Beloit "Brewer" games to watch Prince and Manny Parra, among others, I can say minor league prospects are usually just that - prospects.
*
If the Indians get a quality starter in LaPorta alone, they will be happy with the trade, even if the other 3 never see the Bigs.

whybesad - I just have to laugh to myself at how rediculous your comments are! You are obviously an uneducated baseball fan. Saying this is a "good" trade only if they win the world series is crazy. If they make the playoff this would be a "good" trade. If they win the world series this would be an incredible steal! You saying "draft picks may not pan out" is correct. LaPorta is a draft pick and has he panned out yet? Let me give you his major league stats: .000 batting average. Reread my prior post about producing in the minors. It means nothing until you produce in the majors. Also, suggesting LaPorta could move to center is like suggesting moving Braun to catcher. LaPorta is not a good fielder at all and in no possible situation could he play center field in the majors. Fielder actually did sign a contract, back in 2002 when he was drafted with the Brewers. We have him for a few more years no matter how much he thinks he is being underpaid. Bottom line, anytime you can get a proven major league number 1 starting pitcher, and all you have to give up are some unproven prospects, and thus put your team in a position to make the world series, that is a great trade. (Side Note: I would advise you to do a little more research before your next post).

I don't know about that. It will be a good trade if they win the world series. And you kind of contradicted your self by saying we would get draft picks for him leaving. Draft picks may not pan out. La Porta was proving himself doing much better than Braun was doing at the same time in his career. Braun played third and moved to the outfield. Why not put La Porta in center field Cammeron is getting up there in age. Who knows about Fielder he is very inconsistent and hasn't signed a contract yet. He maybe gone as well. Who knows. He will want the big money but, is he worth it? Our bullpen has yet to be proven that they can shut the door and close out games consistently. I'm still a little hesitant to say this was a great trade. The jury is still out on it. This is the same management that brought in Gagne to be our closer and you can see where that has gotten us.

whybesad - Actually you are incorrect on many of your statements. One player can and does make a difference. If not, teams would not make trades like this. LaPorta may well be a superstar in the majors, but he would not have been with the Brewers. He currently plays LF, which Braun will be playing for many years. If you say move him to first, this is where Fielder is. Also, just because LaPorta is playing well at double A, does not mean this will translate to the Majors. Take a look at Brad Nelson, who dominated double A ball, was the Brewers minor league player of the year a few years back along with being their top prospect. Hasn't exactly been a superstar major leaguer has he? Finally, the Brewers will probably not resign CC which means they will get a supplemental first round pick along with a second round pick in next year's draft. Take a look at the big picture. The Brewers are making an attempt to win it all. This was a great trade for the Brewers.

one player isn't going to make that much of a difference. They can't win games without scoring any runs. They gave up to much for a couple of months of service. La Porta is going to be a superstar in the major leagues. He is young and can change positions. He is playing first base for the US team so he is versatile.
