He didn't want to play anymore. That was his choice.

If the Packers don't take back and keep brett as starter they are crazy. Almost made it to the super bowl last year. To make your greatest player, equal to or greater than bart starr sit on the bench is crazy. Vince Lombardi is tossing violently in his grave saying "where is the sanity?" For what Brett has done for the Packers and Green Bay, you would be insane not to do otherwise. Aaron Rodgers who?

i think that brett should have to have a competition to get the starting position. give him a run for the money. i think that brett is gonna lose alot of fans due to him not making up his mind.

Am I the only one who finds it moderately humorous that this is the survey drawing the most votes? The Gazette posts surveys all the time and this is the priority one? Not any bringing up our politics or the flood issues, no sir; the one about Brett Favre. I'm sorry but no professional athlete has anything to complain about. Oh I'm sorry you've been paid millions to play a game you enjoy, how terrible. How are you helping the world? And I am not trying to seem hostile because I am all but. But in all seriousness, there are far too many heroes unrecognized and here we sit concentrating all our energy into getting upset, or what have you, over quite frankly, nothing. Things like this just make us see how blind we truly can be. Open your eyes.

I have said for many years, that Favre was more concerned about him, than the team. He played in games that he should not have, not because he gave them a better chance to win, but his streak was more important than the team. I will say, after listening to Favre, he should have stood his ground and not retired until he knew for sure. I am sure he was well aware that after his 5th annual "last game", that the fans were not up for another dramatic will he or won't he. Good luck Packer fans, he is the ex-girlfriend that won't go away. This is gonna get worse.

Let Brett compete for the starting quarterback position. If he's better than Rogers then he wins the job. Pretty simple. Or is King Favre to good for the competition?

If Brett is so hot to play somewhere, why won't he apply for reinstatement?
And where do some of you get the idea that "the next move is up to the Packers"?
The next "move" is for Brett to apply for reinstatement, but he will probably go on Oprah first.

"We have no definite plans to ask for reinstatement," (Favre's agent) Cook said. "Right now we have until the sixth week (of the regular season to come back) and Brett has made it pretty clear that he is not willing to come in as a backup."
What? More double-talk and nonsense!!!

I can't believe how poorly they're treating someone who has done so much for them. I guess once you're used up, they'll just knock you down. What's worse is the way that they are dragging their feet because they want to force him into retirement because, if they can't have him, they want to make sure no one else can.

Simple---Brett starts, Rodgers (who is injury prone) is traded, Brohm is groomed and Thompson (who has always had it in for Brett because he wants HIS OWN name on the team) is FIRED!!!

That was pretty insulting whybesad. I have been a Packer fan for probably more years than you have been on this Earth. I am just no longer a Favre fan after all of the DRAMA of the last few years. Will I retire...won't I retire...will I...maybe...no...yes..cry at my "going away...I changed my mind...now I want to play. But maybe NOT 100% dedication.
Brett must be hanging around with Paris Hilton and that bunch...I WANT ATTENTION!!!!
Goodby Brett.

hanna, I'll vote if you can activate that option... really don't care... so many people talk about it that it's gotten old, and FAST... Favre retired, it's done... he's the one being ignorant on wanting to come back... it's all a publicity stunt, if you ask me...

Correct me if I am wrong but I never heard that he turned in his papers to the league about retiring....Therefore he is still an active player. Green Bay put him on the inactive- retired list but as far as I know he has not offically retired.

As for if I want him to come back, Yes and no. He "retired" as one of if not the best quarterback to play this game. He also left at the top of his game. But for his sake he either needs to take what the packers give him or just stay away. He has and can only further damage his rep if he keeps this up.

Funny, but the teams interested in getting him (via a trade ) would be ones who have all the pieces in place to win a championship, but lack a proven QB (teams like; Tampa, Chicago, Minnesota, Carolina).

Sounds to me this is EXACTLY what the Packers will be going into this season with Rodgers at the helm!

whybesad: You said "Keep him as the starter."
How do you "keep" a player who retired (resigned) his job. He has not been the Pack's starter since March. He's gone, and I hope he stays gone.

Keep him as the starter. He's better than Rogers. He knows the team and the plays and maybe we can get to the super bowl this year.

I feel Rodgers will never make a full season as a starter. He has shown himself to be injury prone in relief roles and in practice. A suggestion might be to trade Rodgers to Miami for Jason Taylor. Brett Would still have Brohm and Flynn to Mentor and we might have another first round draft choice. While their at it see what they could get for Thompson.

He should run for President as he is truly a FLIP FLOOPER. Will he come back next year or more of the same thing as the last 2 years? One Super Bowl in 17 years, get something good for him as he is on his last legs!

The way I understand the situation, Brett still has a 2-year, $25 million player contract remaining with the Pack.
So:
1. If Brett returns to the Pack, they pay him.
2. The Pack can trade him and get what they can.
3. Brett can stay retired, Pack pays nothing.
4. The Pack will never "set him free" like a butterfly.

There has been a rift between Favre and Thompson since Thompson came to GB. Favre gives the Packers the best shot at winning The Super Bowl this year. If he were to be reinstated, he should have to compete for his job, although I don't think it would take much for him to be the starter again. My solution for the Packers would be to get Brett, if he's going to come back, to committ to either 1 year or 2 years, trade Rodgers, and prep Brohm to be the starter in 2 years when Favre officially retires. The team, other than at quarterback, is built to win now. Having Favre slinging the ball would be the best option. I like Rodgers, but he's no Brett Favre.

I feel that the damage has been done by the Higher ups they should just let him go and let him take another team to the super bowl and let the packers kick themselves for not being fair to him after all these yrs..

why doesn't he just stay retired?? due to the amount of injuries he's obtained over the years, he can't play near as well as he used to... yes, we made it to the superbowl last year, but he's not been passing the ball like he used to... you can't say that comes from poor coaching... if your body's tired from extensive activity over the years, it will catch up to you, as it seems to be with him... to me, the only reason why he wants to 'unretire' is so that he can try and win one more superbowl... what's it going to take for him to realize that it may not happen... he's got one SB win under his belt... isn't that good enough??

That's not a bad idea nutty.
However, let Aaron start; he'll be hurt and out for the season in no time; then Brett can step up.
