I'm a student at Blackhawk Tech, and we have that day off; so why don't the other schools have it off also?

9-11 should be a holiday that everybody gets off? Are you kidding me? How does that work? Lets see, 4 planes full of terrorist losers fly planes into buildings and kill a bunch of people, and Its great contribution to society should be a day off??? What kind of crack are you people smoking?

nutty, your comments always make me laugh.

I think if we're going to give students off for MLK day, then other important people in history should also be considered. MLK was just one of many people who've made a great impact on our country today.

I could see it if we gave them off for things like Veterans Day, Colombus Day, Presidents Day, Casmir Pulaski Day, and all those other days that the Federal workers take a break, but since they go to school on all those other days, MLK should be no different.

Send Kristy06 back to school to learn how to spell I-M-P-O-R-T-A-N-T. Another reason why the kids should be in school as much as possible. She's right though, 9-11 should be a federal holiday that everyone gets off.

janesvillereader please try to keep your cheap shots factual. In the past when the students of the School District of Janesville had Dr. King Day off, teachers worked. Cheap shots are easy--facts are more important

Now, this would take some doing because you would have to have the Teacher's Union agree to it. So, with that said, it will not happen.
I voted yes but my thought was to not add another holiday. simply to replace one that we already give off with the MLK holiday. That way, we can celebrate what this great man represented without costing another teaching day.

Dr. King's achievements should be recognized by everyone, not just school children. We should all know who he is and what he did for the civil rights movement every day, not just on one day per year. Keep the kids in school and let them learn about all of the great and influential people in our world.

NO ON MLK THEY DON'T NEED ANOTHER DAY OFF SO THEY HAVE TO GO LONGER IN JUNE IF THERE WAS A DAY TO PICK TO GIVE THEM OFF IT SHOULD BE 9/11. THAT IS MORE INPORTON THEN MLK IS.

lol, when I was in school it was black history month. You spent all month earning about important figures. Later on I found out it was changed to black history week. My nephew started school a few years back and he told me they spent MLK day on it...

NO! I will never support giving the kids more days off to not learn that which they have not already learned.

Yes keep them in school and teach them about the important people in history. Also get rid of the early release days, let them stay in school. Also lets get rid of eraly release days. Teachers don't like them, many don't even participate and the kids would be benefit more by staying in school.

Like the teachers need another excuse for a day off.

I agree with the comment that they should be in school learning about those people that have made such big impact on America - that goes for presidents days also..

there are more important people that we could recognize if they are just looking for another day off.

The kids should be in school that day and have the day remembering MLK instead of taking the day off and spending the day in the mall.

Yes, if we can get even a few kids to think about what MLK stood for, it would be worth it. I think the "early out" days are much more distracting to students and problematic for parents than an additional day off. You could remove one of the other February days off for this.

It's already a Federal Holiday...let's leave it at that.

if your going to start giving single persons days off again, switch out of presidents day and start giving each of the presidents birthdays back as days off.

either way kids get too much time off school anyway.
