Gee, that's easy. Paper, Pencils and Makers $25. School Fees $40, doctors visit to update the shots to include the new shots that are required to meet the school districts changing requirements $35, Time off work to sign the kids up for school $80, a good education priceless. I hope that we can get that this year.....

I spend more on the school fees than I do for supplies.

If you need to buy zippy bags, handsanitizer, etc.. you can get those cheap the the Dollar Tree. For all of my other supplies I was at Staples, gotta love their .01,.05, .25 cent deals. For most everything else Walmart is the cheapest. You can also look at Walgreens. Normally they are higher, but they have a .09 cent sale on right now on pencils, posterboard, pens and more.

I was able to buy all of my childs school supplies for $15.00. School fees, yearbook and gym shirt will run me another $40.00.
I only buy clothes on sale , at rummage sales or I make a day trip to Machesney mall to the Penney's outlet. Last year I bought over $500.00 worth of name brand clothes at the Penneys outlet for only $70.00. It take a little smart shopping and maybe a few trips but it is worth it in the long run.

If you watch the sale adds (in the Sunday Gazette or on most store websites), you could easily get all the school supplies for one child under $20. I was just at Target and crayons were $0.22, scissors $0.72. Staples and Office Max have 1 cent deals. Yes I know gas prices are high, but if you plan ahead you could save some money.

We need to supply Kleenex, hand sanitizer, etc because our children use these things & the school can't supply everything for free. People think child care is expensive too but once you consider everything a child uses/consumes (not even considering wear & tear, time spent, quality of care/early education)in a day, providers don't make a lot of money It's your child so you have to provide what they need - even at school.

Under $100 those kids must still be in elementary school. Fees in high school alone are $100

I'll spend more than $500. They require a calculator that is over $100 alone that with school taxes I mean fees and all the supplies needed it's easily over $500. Can't wait for college :(

LL Bean backpacks will last. They are about $25 and my son has used his for three years so far! His first no-name backpack was cute, but had holes in it before the end of preschool.

Whybesad: Are you serious? If they're going into a dorm, they can rent the refrigerator. Every floor probably has its own kitchen with a microwave and most schools have elite computer labs that are open 24/7. Granted my college days were many moons ago, but part of going to college was learning to live on nearly zip and to not have your parents footing a lot of the bill.

They need the new laptop for college and the futon and the mini-refrigerator and microwave. Not to mention the other odds and end. I'm looking at $2k easy.

My kids seem to grow out of everything over the summer. They cant reuse a backpack because nothing seems to be made to last anymore. We spend around $400 getting the kids ready but that also includes their school fees, parking passes and such. The tennis shoes alone will break you budget.

What is the matter with using left overs from last year. My grandkids help buy their school supplies and clothes with money they have saved thru ou the year from birthdays etc and they do not mind using the stuff they have left over from previous years.

The survey asks how much you'll spend on EACH child. So far, 9 people have said over $500. What the heck are you people buying for your kids? I mean, I kind of assume the survey is talking about public school age kids, not college students with hundreds of dollars in book fees alone. We don't spend anywhere near $500 on TWO kids, including all supplies and new school clothes.
