The DNR has always said it wanted to keep the number of wolves between 300 and 500. Until recently a federal lawsuit had tied the hands of the DNR to effectively manage the population, which is now estimated near 600. It's only going to grow if we don't allow the DNR the option of setting up a hunt. Like Rocket21 said, it's not like all that many permits would be issued.

Just say NO to the wolf hunt! There is no need for it. It was a mistake to declassify these animals. They aren't as big a threat to humans as perceived. They will control the deer population(to an extent)in areas where they are found. Let their population expand to a larger region, so they may cull more deer from the herd.

Lets not hunt wolves until they become a problem........cmon people why not take management precatuions and start the limited hunt now, It WILL happen no matter what we do there is no debate to that, its just a matter of do we start now and keep them managed or do we wait until its a bigger problem and have an open hunt?

Where's my gun? It won't be all out killing spree as some people might want to believe. They will only issue permits for what they think would be right.

You might change your mind on this issue if your precious little snookie-kins (your cat) gets mauled by a wolf.

Come on, why not hunt them. The WDNR isn't going to issue 99,999 permits! Only a small number of people (probably less than 100) are actually going to receive permits to hunt them. Heck, only a small number of people get to hunt bears. Hunting them will keep them in check. The WDNR has a responsibility to monitor the numbers of wolves just like all other wildlife. If the number gets to low, believe me, the Federal government will be showing up real fast. Also, wolves are not in the CWD areas, they’re way up north!!

I'm ok with farmers being able to shoot wolves threatening their lifestock or police shooting any that threaten human beings but otherwise leave them alone.

Come on people this is nuts. These wolves just came off of the treatened/endangered list last year??? And now you want to hunt them?

Leave the wolves alone and let them take care of the deer population. Then maybe we could finaly get CWD under control, after all mother nature has a way of taking care of things on her own. (more wolves = less deer = less CWD = better natural enviroment for all) Although I do agree that a farmer should have the right to shoot a wolf under certain circumstances. But not to let it be open to a full hunt.

If only the wolves would troll our parks and eat all the goose eggs!

Farmers should be allowed.

But, don't wolfs keep down the deer population? I believe they go after weak or sick animals mostly. And that's a good thing, right?
