I need to get a gift for my father and will probably find a book or a classic movie video online for him for Christmas.

I try to avoid local merchants after Thanksgiving due to the crowds and cloying Christmas marketing. I dislike the Salvation Army bellringers constricting store entrances with their kettles and annoying bell-ringing. I can find the office addresses of charities I wish to donate to, I don't need the aggravation of having to step around them on my way to buy groceries.

I would like to boycott businesses that put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving weekend, but with so many retailers starting even before Halloween has passed, it is becoming too difficult to do so. I fully expect corporate greed and Madison Avenue stupidity to make year-round Christmas season advertising a standard within my lifetime.
