This was more of a summary, a quick note, rather than solutions. You state a topic of possible solutions and barely touch on it, however I am looking on this page online and can see no mention of HOW or WHO or WHERE. As a community these things are provided, but as someone who purports to have done some investigating reporting on the matter, little is provided for anyone seeking these proposed answers. A few extra seconds to mention First Call and stating the number would have done this snippet of audio alot of good. Why leave such highly important information out? If the focus is solutions, then please help to provide them instead of giving hints and clues. Transportation IS a huge problem to anyone living in poverty and the most difficult to overcome. The city buses travel on a schedule, passengers or not. Perhaps starting a program to aid families with discounted bus tokens would help both those trying to help themselves going to college or work as well as JTS. ATM it seems mainly the handicapped take advantage of such services. Poverty is a handicap, albeit a more temporary (hopefully) one. Starting a new job and have been unemployed and homeless? 1-Month of Discounted Tokens would help ALOT. Same for anyone in poverty seeking education without transportation to get to UW-Rock or BTC. Guidelines would omit drug/alchohol offenders, of course, who may resell the tokens for profit, but those of us who are struggling very hard day to day should not be ignored over those who would abuse a system. Missing class because you cannot afford to get there will, in some cases, help make you fail. I had to drop a class because I was hospitalized! Life is tough but I haven't given up and make more than excellent grades despite poverty. I walk if I have to.
