Crews from LP Tree Service of Janesville worked Monday to remove a large red oak tree from behind a house at 712 Milton Ave., Janesville. The tree had a split at the top, and a large section of it had fallen on a nearby fence, workers said. The tree was 85 feet tall, measured 55 inches at its base and looked to be 150 to 175 years old. That would date it as far back as the birth of Janesville, or even before Wisconsin earned statehood.
