Gazette photographer Dan Lassiter captured this image in May.‘This was my second year covering the VetsRoll return,’ Lassiter said.‘As I ran from the front to the side of the Eclipse Center, I encountered the perfect trifecta—flag wavers, fireworks and a bus. Sometimes you get lucky.’

Gazette photographer Dan Lassiter got a special shot during the Rock County 4-H Fair on July 25.‘Covering the fair annually, you tend to see many things repeat, year after year,’ Lassiter said. ‘It was nice to capture a fresh moment.’The photo shows Devin Witte, 8, of Bradford 4-H Cloverbuds as he is nibbled on the nose by a Nigerian dwarf goat that belongs to his brothers, Dylan and Dalton, while he is sitting in the goat’s pen.

In selecting this photo as one of his favorites of the year,Gazette Photo Editor Bill Olmsted noted it was the ‘anticipation of the ouch’ that drew his attention. In the picture, Emma Bussan, 8, takes a tumble from her mount during the mutton busting event at the Rock County 4-H Fair on July 31.

Gazette photographer Dan Lassiter captured this shot of horses cantoring through a gentle flurry of snowflakes in their corral at Longview Farm between Janesville and Delavan on Jan. 27.‘I really am not a big fan of snow,’ Lassiter said,‘but the snowfall made this scene so pretty it made this picture one of my favorites of the year.‘
