Although Cal's license from the state say cosmetologist, pushing 'product' isn't a prime mover at the shop. A couple of bottles of bay rum aftershave occupy a mostly empty shelf.

A good deal of the history of personal hygiene in Milton is covered in a small place on the wall of Cal's shop. The space has been previously occupied by three other barbers over the last 110 years. Cal, with something close to 46 years is possibly the longest.

After more than 45 years cutting hair, it's reasonable to wonder if Cal's hands could complete a job without any input from Cal himself.

Cal pauses to chat with a customer after he made an appointment for later in the week. Although customers can call on the telephone, dropping by the barbershop and talking to whoever is around seems to be a part of life in Milton.
