On scouting: Why call it Boy or Girl Scouts? Why don’t they just call it Scouts of America?

On race: No one wants to talk about it, but until and unless successful members of the black communities take steps to end the disproportionate percentage of black citizens committing felonies, the racial divide will continue unabated. Forced diversity is not working in most communities, with Madison as a prime example.

On Cathy Myers’ Tuesday column (Page 4A): Cathy Myers is typical of the liberals spewing hate across America. God help us if she’s elected, and this is what’s teaching in our schools.

Why would The Gazette waste their time in printing such a long article on somebody that is such a dark horse, and her only achievement was being on the Janesville School District Board. I don’t understand it.

On Tuesday story, ‘Fall frost? Not anytime soon’ (Page 1A): I’m just wondering what that white stuff was I had to scrape off my windshield yesterday morning if we haven’t had any frost yet. I’m pretty sure I had to go dig out a scraper and clear it because I couldn’t see where I was going. It may not have been a killing frost or a hard frost, but it was definitely white and cold and blocking my view.

On health-care solution: President Trump’s next move should be to rescind the exemption that Congress enjoys from Obamacare. This exemption was granted through an executive order from Barack Obama and can be rescinded by an executive order from Trump. Then Congress would have to live by the same rules they have forced upon ordinary Americans. You would see health care get fixed in world-record time.

Paul Ryan and Donald Trump swore on the Bible that they would uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States. Both had previously violated that oath by continuing to undermine the Affordable Care Act, our national health law. Both of these deceitful politicians should be removed from office in shame.

On Oct. 8 Rachel’s Race for Long QT Syndrome: I ran the race at the Skelly farm and what a race it was! A very organized time to run/walk on scenic roads with mile markers. There were over two dozen raffle baskets in the silent auction. I highly recommend participating next year.

On proposed cuts to humane society: I’m ashamed of the city of Janesville for attempting to cut funding to the humane society. There’s a great need, and it’s one mark of a good city. Janesville is a rich city, and there’s no reason that the humane society cannot be funded and maybe even funded better.

For seniors, children and others, pets are an important part in their lives. I ask Council President Doug Marklein to visit the new Walworth County Humane Society building.

On Sept. 30 story, ‘Prent sends aid to its Puerto Rico plant workers’: What a great example of assessing the needs and delivering help. It’s one that our federal government would be smart to follow. So heartwarming to hear of quick, decisive action.

On walker thief: I wish the person who stole my mother’s walker from in front of her house on Sunday while she was attending church would return it. I think it’s awful that someone would steal an old woman’s walker from her driveway while she was attending church.

On proposed license plate change: In regards to changing our license plate motto from ‘America’s Dairyland’ to ‘Forward,’ I don’t think we’ve earned that right after we voted for Trump in November. Maybe ‘Backward’ would be more fitting.

On drunken driving sentence (Page 3A, Wednesday): I’m referring to the woman getting a year probation after she drove drunk and inflicted serious injuries on the pedestrian. One year probation and 45 days in jail is adequate for inflicting bone fractures, brain damage on this man? How much more leeway do we need to give to drunk drivers?

On $500,000 for Janesville: The city of Janesville is going to be receiving an additional $500,000 from the state in each of the next five years. The first thing our city manager wants to do is to pad the payroll by adding more police and firefighters. No, this money should be given back to the taxpayers by reducing the wheel tax for the next five years.
