On Rock River water level: I would like to know why it is still so high. It has been high since the month of April, all May and all June. Obviously they’re not opening the gate at the dam because the water isn’t even moving. Why does Janesville have to have all this water? Send it down to Beloit and let it go all the way down to wherever it ends up. It’s not fair to the people on this river to have all this flooding because you won’t open the gates.
On wake restrictions: ‘Slow, no wake.’ The faster you go, the less wave you produce. A V-hull makes more than a flat bottom, but once you get up over 50 mph, there is very little wake.
On dead waterfowl: My husband and I had to take a wounded duck to a hospital in Lake Geneva yesterday. The duck was found down by the river where the kids drive through, and they aim at the animals. There was a dead goose and this injured mallard duck, and I really wish the police department would drive through there much more than they do because these kids are getting away with killing our waterfowl.
On rude drivers: I saw the July 3 article on Wisconsin drivers being rude, and I think it does apply to Janesville. I compare Janesville to Madison, and Janesville drivers are far less likely to let you in if you are trying to make a lane change.
On the Delavan-Darien dual language program: The best way for anyone to become enculturated to any other culture is to learn that culture’s language. My brother-in-law is a department chairman at a university, and he often invited foreign students to join our family for dinner during Christmas break. He also came from the same foreign country and when the students would resort to speaking in their native tongue, he always says, ‘We only speak English in this house.’ That is what these children and their parents need to attempt to do as much as possible.
On Janesville proposed fee increases: The excuse to raise fees, rates and taxes has always been to compare them to other cities. Note to Janesville fathers, the administration, the city council and any others who may be interested: We don’t give a rat’s patootie what other cities charge for anything. We only care what we have to pay.
This administration and city council think nothing of giving millions of taxpayer dollars away to a questionable organization such as SHINE Medical Technologies and, at the same time, plans fee hikes to its own taxpaying residents. Janesville has become the city of giveaways to the wealthy at the expense of its citizens. Citizens of Janesville are in dire need of a total draining of the swamp that currently exists at City Hall.
If the city would quit spending money foolishly, it wouldn’t have to raise fees.
On House Speaker Paul Ryan: I think it is time for him to use his speaker of the House position and stop all the hate mongering of Trump and tell them to shut it down because we are all sick of it. I’m so sick of seeing everything on Trump being bad, bad, bad. I think it’s time that Ryan draws the line in Washington and say enough is enough, and he’s the man that can do it.
On Sunday Page 1A story, “G20 shuts Trump out on climate stance”: Excuse me, I think it was the other way around. Trump told them to take their Paris climate accord and stick it. If they want to throw their money down a rat hole playing God, that’s their business. But we’re not going along with them. When they get done stopping the climate from doing what it’s always done, maybe they can stop hurricanes and tornadoes or maybe get rid of winter. Nobody likes that very much, anyway.
On report of Foxconn considering a location in Janesville: I guess some people have not learned a lesson from the GM shutdown to even consider letting in a large company that wants to someday move and lay off 10,000 of our citizens.
On Sunday Sound Off comment about a Janesville councilman: How petty of Sunday’s caller to object to Jens Jorgensen being in the Milton parade. Mr. Jorgensen has as much right to be in the Fourth of July celebration as you have to watch it. May I remind you just what independence is all about.
