On Wednesday Sound Off criticism of dog owners: I object to the Sound Off on dog owners. I am a dog walker, and I bend over and pick up my dog’s mess off the sidewalk or front yard. I sometimes pick up the garbage that might be on your yard as well.
In response to the comment that Janesville dog owners all have lazy-itis, I take offense to that. I go to the dog park every single day, and I see 20 to 30 people there walking their dogs at any time of the day. It’s a wonderful park, and Janesville is not lazy with their dogs.
On Janesville trail work: Kudos to the neighborhood group that has created the prairie restoration area on the trails. It’s beautiful. However, I was heartsick to see the huge piles of trees, plants and wild raspberry bushes they cut down over this past weekend. Do we really need more prairie grass when those trees provided shade, color, food and, most important, homes for the wildlife?
On downtown Janesville: New hotels, restaurants, pop-up stores will be great for Janesville. One thing that must be addressed is crime of all kinds. It must be handled aggressively. We must uncuff our police and let them do their jobs. If we want a great city, let’s start cleaning it up, and the jobs will come.
What is the city of Janesville coming to? No wonder people want to move out of Janesville. They are now considering allowing people to drink alcohol on the city streets. We have enough alcoholics and drug people on the streets.
On Nov. 7 Milton schools referendum: I am so tired of the negativity coming from some folks in Milton. I love our Milton school and will be firmly supporting long-overdue improvements to the building.
I looked at the finance committee agenda for the Oct. 9 meeting, and I am flabbergasted by the millions of dollars of borrowing recommended. What is going on, and where is all the operational money from the last referendum?
I’ve talked to a lot of senior citizens. They have complained and told me that they cannot afford it, the taxes will drive them right out of their homes and some say it would put them in an awful bind. Therefore, I’m going to say ‘no.’
On Janesville School District’s published minutes: The minutes of the school board meetings are very minimal. For example, the Aug. 22 and Sept. 12 meetings as reported in the Tuesday edition (Page 8A) are merely a listing of agenda items with no detail reporting of discussion.
On Parker graduate: Very nice story Tuesday (Page 1B) about Janesville Parker graduate Alonzo Velazquez playing college football for the Wyoming Cowboys. His comments in the article about the Parker football program were so thoughtful and kind.
On Columbus Day opposition: The anti-Columbus movement has in part its origins with the 1920s Ku Klux Klan anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic platform. If people understood the historical context of Columbus voyages, perhaps this bigotry would not persist.
On President Trump: I want to say that I’m so disgusted with Donald Trump that if he told me to stand for the flag, I would sit. I would kneel. I would not remove my hat. If this was an order from him, I would not follow it.
Once again, under opinions, our president was being so disrespected. It was close to being obscene. Next time, put the name Gazette in the form of a rag. That’s my opinion.
On a frustrated homeowner: I have called and tried to make appointments for different things around my house, from mechanical reasons, furnace, garage door, water softener, oxygen machines for my mother, and nobody calls back. Do people not want business anymore? If you are a business owner, please pay attention to your customers when they call. Either answer the calls or return them in a timely fashion.
