I am an American citizen living in Janesville who once lived in El Salvador and has firsthand knowledge of the continuing misinformation regarding Central America.

The MS-13 is a gang that formed in the U.S., NOT El Salvador. While it is the most notorious gang on earth, I can assure you that the people seeking asylum, especially the kids, are not MS-13. Gangs murder and bribe their way into the U.S. These people are fleeing the gang. I worked among the MS-13 and tried to keep young people out of the gang.

El Salvador and Honduras take turns as being the murder capitals of the world. The abject poverty and violence create an atmosphere of fear and retribution. Central American gangs deal in two products: drugs and people.

Gangs will murder anyone who tries to stop the flow of drugs to the U.S. They also will kill each other if they use the product themselves.

The other activity is people trafficking. Young girls, not women, are kidnapped and brought across the border into Texas, where they are forced to work in bordellos and are raped by our own citizenry.

Regarding the wall, you can build another Great Wall of China and not keep out the gangs. They will do anything to get drugs here. Perhaps you should view Jack Kennedy’s famous speech at the Berlin Wall in June of 1963. Maybe this will convince you about walls of shame. Americans working together on policy is the only way.
