I was deeply offended by The Gazette's Dec. 26 "thumbs down" regarding the recent publicity of the horrible injuries inflicted on a helpless dog. I did not appreciate being referred to as a "vigilante" simply because I believe in animal rights and share the views of the Sound Off callers who were rudely criticized.
There was absolutely no excuse to inflict these horrible injuries on this animal. The dog was then left to suffer for several days before being taken to a veterinarian. This was clearly no accident. The prosecutor had enough evidence to charge the abusive monster who tortured this dog with a felony. For you to suggest that "this tragedy was perhaps an accident--not a malicious act" is completely appalling and deeply offensive to your readers. It also shows a lack of understanding of this abusive situation and is quite an unreasonable suggestion.
The Gazette readers feel strongly about this situation and feel that this man should be punished strongly. You have made this very disturbing incident even worse with your completely insensitive and absurd column.
A formal apology needs to be issued over your offensive and rude remarks. There is no excuse for defending an animal abuser, and I would like to see a retraction of this atrocious column.
I truly hope there will be more of an outcry from the public over this situation, demanding justice on behalf of this dog.
