Evansville/Janesville, WI -- William “Bill” Joseph Slein, age 89 passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 30, 2018, in Evansville, WI. Bill was born in Janesville, WI, on Feb. 19, 1929, to Patrick J. Slein of Boyle, County Roscommon in Ireland and Mary Ellen Josephine McCue. Bill served in the United States Army 511th Airborne. Bill was married to Gertrude Drexler on May 17, 1958, by Reverend Michael F. Slein in St. Vincent’s Catholic Church Oshkosh, WI, and they have celebrated almost 60 years together. Bill was a lifetime blood donor and a passionate advocate for blood donation. He had a quick wit, was very proud of his Irish Heritage and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Slein of Evansville; his children and grandchildren: Theresa Slein, her children, Brian (Ashly) Adams and Erin (Cruz) Ortega, of Edgerton, WI., Patrick (Laurie Barsella) Slein, of Chicago IL., Monica (Mark) Morgan, her children, Mercedes and Madelyn of Menomonee Falls., Sean (Jodi) Slein, and his children, Michael, Conner, Luke of Eldersberg, MD; four great grandchildren: Dominic and Vaughn Adams, Anthony and Sofia Ortega; numerous nieces; nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Ellen Slein; his siblings: John, James, Mary, Catherine, Patrick, Michael and Bernard.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday May 18, 2018, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, Evansville, with Reverend Kevin Dooley officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at CHURCH. WARD-HURTLEY FUNERAL HOME EVANSVILLE is assisting the family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kelly House and Agrace HospicCare for the care given to Bill.
