Thomas N. Ambler, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, in Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison, WI.He was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Janesville, WI, the son of Robert N. and Katherine (Mier) Ambler. Thomas was a 1956, graduate of Craig High School, Janesville, WI. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed in Key West and Norfolk, VA. He became a merchant Marine after the Navy. Thomas married Marlys Rae Gilbertson on July 24, 1956, in St. John Vianney, Janesville, WI. She predeceased him on April 10, 2014. Thomas was formerly employed by Beloit Corporation, Besley and Taylor Design among others as an accomplished journey man machinist. He owned and operated Amblers Gun Room. Thomas was a self taught gun smith. He was a member and on the board of Beloit Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who taught hunters safety, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gunsmithing. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and was a 4th Degree member of St. Peters Knights of Columbus Council #8021. Survivors include his children: Lori (Neal) Smaler of Woodland Hills, CA, Chris (Donna) Ambler of Fleming Island, FL, Matthew Ambler of LaCrosse, WI, and Michelle Tally of Beloit, WI; grandchildren: Angela, Robert, Christopher, Ashley, Brycen and Rachel; great grandchildren: Vanessa, Karysma, Ariana and Kali; sister, Marion Bond of Carson City, NV; many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Kelly Fallon and family for all their friendship and care they have given Tom to keep him comfortable in his home. He was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Robert; son, Peter Ambler; grandson, Daniel Smaler; three sisters: Harriett Blumreich, Ruth Heise and Suzanne Ambler. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd, South Beloit, IL, with Fr. Steven Sabo officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL. Visitation of remembrance will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at
