Details for Rita I. Davis

Rita I. Davis, 102, of Janesville, WI, was received by the Lord on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Mercy Manor Care Center. She was born on May 17, 1915, in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Pouliot) Valliere. Rita graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Escanaba in 1933. She has been a Janesville resident since 1950. Rita married Walter F. Davis in May of 1937, in Chemung, IL. Rita was a Sales Clerk at the Escanaba Fair Store, and also an AT&T Telephone Operator during WWII, while her husband served in the Pacific theater. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rita loved traveling with her daughters, twice to Europe, and enjoyed the fine arts. She loved dancing, and even won a State dance contest in Milwaukee when she was 8 years old. She was an avid reader, often writing letters to the editor. Rita had great compassion and love for animals. She is survived by her children: Elizabeth (Jerry) Shere of Janesville, Mary M. Davis of Janesville and Jackie Omdoll of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren: Teressa Davis of OR, Jennifer (Jon) Paul, of CO, and Aaron P. Omdoll of FL; and five great-grandchildren: Brandson Sandersen and Kendyl Sandersen both of OR, Caiden, Sofia, and Josiah Paul, of CO. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Florence (Pouliot) Valliere; husband, Walter F. Davis; children, Patricia Herbertson of Atlanta, GA, and Thomas W. Davis of Middleton, WI; and sisters, Isabel Klug and Beatrice Gabourie both from Escanaba, MI. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at NATIVITY OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Fr. Robert J. Butz officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum follows the service. Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
