Janesville, WI -- Margaret J. (Sweeney) Mullen, age 84, a longtime resident of the Janesville area, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2018 at her home. She was born May 31, 1933 in Brooklyn, WI, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Priscilla L. (McGowan) Sweeney. She attended schools in Milton, and was a graduate of Milton Union High School, Class of 1951. On September 16, 1967 she married Robert F. Mullen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milton. Margaret was a very devoted wife and Mom, and thoroughly loved her role assisting her husband working their farm, raising chickens and ducks. Margaret was a very avid animal lover, and loved visiting the Milwaukee County Zoo, the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, and area deer parks and reserves. She loved the fall season, and especially loved the colors of the season while visiting Holy Hill and the surrounding area. Due to some issues with her sight many years ago, Margaret served as a research subject for many years for the University of Wisconsin Eye Clinic. She also was an avid walker, and enjoyed being a Mall Walker at the Janesville Mall. In her later years, she would walk the halls at Riverview Heights. Margaret will be dearly missed by her neighbors and friends there. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, and enjoying good conversation and a great cup of coffee! She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Margaret is survived by her two children, James R. Mullen, of Janesville, and Anna Marie Peach, of Kamuela, HI; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her four siblings: Eunice Purdy, Catherine Morse, Harold Sweeney, and Evan Sweeney. She was further preceded in death by her very dear friend since childhood, Betty Gavigan.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with Fr. Joseph Baxter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
