James Knudson, age 81, of Janesville passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Our House Senior Living - Memory Care. He was born on June 13, 1936 in Janesville, son of Paul and Helen (Goede) Knudson. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, attending school there and then graduating from Janesville High School in 1954. James married Beverly Shannon on August 25, 1956, she preceded him in death on May 9, 2016. He began work at the age of 12, working at Art’s Grocery store, later working for Beloit Corporation, and retiring from Spacesaver. He was very active in his church, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the fellowship club, a past school board member, a church elder, member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher and attended Bible classes. James’ hobbies included talking, driving, and playing solitaire. He was a Parker High School Band parent, and bowled in various bowling leagues. James is survived by his three daughters: Nancy (Gerald) Griffith of Janesville, Julie Murph of Janesville, and Debra Knudson of San Jose, CA; son, John (Sue) Knudson of La Crosse; seven grandchildren: Becky (Josh), Brian, Alicia, Lindsay (Cory), Bailey, Samantha, and Demitria; brother, Robert (Arlene) Knudson of Janesville; sister-in-law, Donna (Gerry Lambert) Johnson; brother-in-law, David (Sally) Shannon of AZ; beloved nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Doris (Arthur) McGraw, sister-in-law, Barbara (Donald) Christenson, brother-in-law, Charles Johnson; niece, Sharon Christenson; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Zella Shannon; and great-grandson, Aviree Stein. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at ST. PAUL’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Daniel Decker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and School.
