Details for Grace Ardith Wissell

Grace Ardith Wissell was born June 6, 1926 in Elkhorn, to Lawrence Fred and Eunice (Ledger) York. She passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Golden Years of Walworth, under the care of Aurora at Home Hospice. Ardith spent most of her life living just outside of Zenda, WI. She grew up on a farm, where she loved riding her horse, Trixie. After farming on different locations in the area, she and her husband, Jim, moved back to Mohawk Rd. They would end up living there for over 50 years. Ardith always enjoyed being outside. Her favorite activity was swimming. She once swan across the Narrows of Lake Geneva. Her children were very fortunate, she was always willing to take them down to the lake after supper for a swim. After Ardith retired form working outside the home, she could be seen riding her bike into Zenda to get the mail on any day that the weather permitted. Ardith worked for several years for the Peterson Family of Black Point. She also worked for Zenda Lumber Co., and Sears. She was a life long member of Linn Presbyterian Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, church Treasurer, and with the Presbyterian Women. Ardith married Jim in Missouri on January 18, 1943. For 73 years, they worked as a team, enjoying many things together. Jim tended the garden, and Ardith canned and froze the produce. They traveled through all 50 states and a couple of foreign countries. They loved music, dancing, flowers, playing cards, visiting with friends and family, and just sitting under the old oak trees enjoying the day.

Ardith is survived by her children: Kathy (Gary) Holden, Fred (Gere) Wissell, Jeanne (Ray) Kolnik, Nancy E. (Gary E.) Wagner, and Chris Wissell; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; brothers: James York, Walter (Mary) York and Ellis (Karen) York; sister, Margaret (Jack) Lee; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Wissell; her parents; sons, Robert L. Wissell and Lawrence J. Wissell; and sister-in-law, Doris York.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha St., Walworth, and again on Tuesday at Linn Presbyterian Church, W3335 Willow Rd, Lake Geneva, WI from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Linn-Hebron Cemetery. Ardith is at peace now. She is happy our Heavenly Father has called her home. She is probably playing pinochle right now with Jim and their sons, Bob and Larry. We love you Mom.
