Details for Fredric Lawrence Dickison
Fredric Lawrence Dickison, age 83, entered Eternal life on January 25, 2018, at home in Orfordville, surrounded by his family, after battling leukemia for several years. He was born on October 10, 1934, the son of Leo and Nina (Hanson) Dickison, the second of four sons. Fred was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of Orfordville Lutheran Church. Over the years, he served as Sunday School teacher, Luther League advisor, council member, various committees, and enjoyed worship and adult Bible study. Fred received his early education at Spring Valley Center School, while his family resided in the county. After moving to Orfordville in 1943, he attended school in town, graduating from Orfordville High School in 1952. Fred met the love of his life, Nancy Marie Rowley, in 1953, at County Stadium, while on a bus trip to a Milwaukee Braves game that season. They were joined in marriage on June 28, 1958, at Orfordville Lutheran Church. Together, Fred and Nancy raised three children: Douglas, Darciann and Duane. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up, and followed and encouraged them in their activities. He was a proud father and grandpa, and lived his days as a tremendous role model. Fred served in the U.S. Army during 1956-57, as a member of the Signal Corps in Korea. He was honored to attend the Vets Roll trip to Washington D.C. in 2011. Following his service, he owned and operated Dickison’s Gas and Grocery from 1958-1960 in Orfordville. Fred and Nancy purchased the Kessler Royal Blue Grocery in 1960, and relocated Dickison’s Grocery to the downtown location, which they owned until selling in 1973. E.Z. Gregory of Madison then employed him until retirement in 1999. Following retirement, Fred enjoyed working part-time for Burtness Chevrolet of Orfordville. He was an avid follower of his Wisconsin teams: the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. He loved to care for the many birds that visit his backyard daily. He is survived by his wife of 59½ years, Nancy; three children: Doug (Laurie) of Evansville, Darci (Jeff) of West Bend and Duane of Orfordville; and his six grandchildren: Davis Dickison, Jordan, Christian, Landon and Emerson Ketter and Tyler Nelson. He is further survived by his brother, Sandford J. (Betty) Dickison; sister-in-law, Mary Dickison; and nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and David. Memorial services will be held at Orfordville Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, with Pastor Andy Twiton officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newcomer-Silverthorn Chapel on the Hill, 3008 South Coon Island Road, Orfordville, on Friday, February 2, 2018, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
