Formerly S. Beloit, IL -- Eugenia “Jean” McCabe, 94, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at St. Elizabeth’s Manor in Footville, WI, following a long illness. Prior to her death, she had been a resident at St. Elizabeth’s for the past five years, and had lived in South Beloit, IL, for many years after her retirement. Jean was born on August 27, 1923 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Martin and Alyce (Witter) McCabe. She attended school in the one-room Nye School as a child, and graduated from Beloit High School in 1941. For most of her adult life, she worked as an administrative assistant in downtown Chicago. She returned to the area upon retirement to care for her aging mother. In her younger years, Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, and volunteering her secretarial skills at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in South Beloit, where she was a member.
Jean is survived by her brothers, Melvin McCabe of Beloit, WI, and Leon McCabe of Janesville, WI; sister, Kathleen Knox of Madison, WI; sisters-in-law, Betty McCabe of Shorewood, WI, and Carolyn McCabe of Beloit, WI; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry McCabe and Edward McCabe; sister, Frances Heyerdahl; brothers-in-law, Gerald Heyerdahl and James Knox; sisters-in-law, Betty McCabe and Edith McCabe; and many friends.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd. South Beloit, IL, with Fr. Steven Sabo officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, WI. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
