ELKHORN, WI—Alfred E. Hegberg; 69, of Stallman Road in Elkhorn, WI, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 30, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the son of Kenneth R. and Mary E. (Tyler) Hegberg. He served as Sergeant First Class in the US Army, during the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1993, after serving over 20 years. On July 22, 1967, in Chicago, he was united in marriage to Diane A. Trochowski. For over 31 years, Al was employed with the City of Elkhorn Street Department, retiring in 2003. Al was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Elkhorn, the Elkhorn Memorial VFW Post # 6375 and AFSCME.
Al is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane; three children: Karen (Kenneth) Larsen of Lake Geneva, WI, Denise (Kenneth) Babcock of Elkhorn and Matthew (Renee) Hegberg of Milton, WI; three grandchildren: Calvin Michael Hegberg, Addison Jade Babcock and Kinley Mae Hegberg; and one sister, Evlynne (Phillip) Owens of Beloit, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene Siekierski; and two brothers, Robert and Kenneth “Bud” Hegberg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 107 W. Walworth Street Elkhorn, WI, with Father Oriol Regales officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery Union Grove, WI. Visitation will be on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 2 until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:45 p.m. at HAASE-LOCKWOOD & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI.
