EDGERTON, WI—Stephen D. Zych, 89, of Edgerton, WI, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare Inc, in Fitchburg. He was born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Chicago, the son of the late Leon and Salomea (Kramarski) Zych. Steve was united in marriage on May 28, 1949, to Dorothy Daniels at S.S. Cyril and Methodist Church in Chicago. She preceded him in death, on July 13, 2009, after 60 years of marriage. Steve was a graduate of Lindblom High School.
Steve worked for Pitney Bowes for 25 years as a service representative, and also for Standard Oil Company as a training station manager. He entered the United States Army during WWII in 1943, and was assigned to the Heavy Pontoon Division, 3rd Army. He was sent to St. Norbert's College for Basic Engineering studies, and later, to Central China as a high speed radio operator. After serving in the Army, he leased and operated several service stations and served on the Dealer Advisory Committee, for South Central Chicago. He then purchased a dairy farm in Wisconsin as a part time venture. He and Dorothy spent 18 years vacationing in the Minocqua area, camping and fishing for muskie, he loved to remodel every house he lived in and enjoyed woodworking.
Steve is survived by five children: twins, Steven (Vera) Zych of Edgerton and Janet (Louis) Behrens of Rochester, MN, Jeanniene (Gene) Nelson of Madison, WI, Jennifer (Roger) Powell of Medway, MA, and Megan Daniels of Titusville, FL; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; and his cat Señor. Stephen is the last of his family; he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and seven brothers.
A Memorial service and celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the EHLERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, (US HWY 51 N) Edgerton, with the Rev. Barbara Wells officiating. Friends may call at the FUNERAL HOME on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
